Äitienpäiväkortti puutarhateemalla / Mother's Day card with gardening theme

Äitini sai keväällä puutarhapalstan ja se inspiroi minua äitienpäiväkortin teemaan. Muiden Paperilla-tiimiläisten äitienpäivän askarteluja voi käydä kurkkaamassa Paperillan blogista (linkki).

My mum got a small garden this spring and it inspired me for the theme for the Mother's Day card she will get this year. You can find more Mother's Day crafting on Paperilla's blog (link).

Teksti on kirjoitettu tikkuihin, joilla usein merkataan puutarhassa vihannekset ja yrtit.

The text I wrote on sticks that are usually used to mark herbs and veggies in the garden.

Vihannekset tein itse FIMO-muovailumassasta. Siksi ne on keskenään vähän väärän kokoisia, mutta se ei haittaa yhtään! :D Vihannesten ympärillä on neljästä pahvinpalasta tehty laatikko. Väriä lisäsin Distress Ink -musteella, ettei se olisi liian yksivärinen. Laatikon pohjalla on pieni ruskea kangaspala, jotta laatikolla olisi myös pohja. Se kuitenkin vähän kurkkaa vihannesten välistä.

The vegetables I made myself out of FIMO modelling clay. That's why they are a bit wrong sized to each other but that doesn't matter! :D Around the veggies I glued four pieces of cardboard to make a box. The cardboard got some more color with Distress Ink. At the bottom of the box is a piece of brown fabric, so the box has a bottom, because it peaks through the veggies.

Laatikon reunaa koristaa rivi pieniä kukkia. Kukat on leikattu Tattered Flower Garland -stanssilla. Sisällä on pieni helmi, joka on liimattu sinne glitterliimalla. Laatikon alla on vähän keltaista ja ruskeaa maalia tuputettu pensselillä.

The edge of the box is decorated with a row of small flowers. The flowers are cut with the Tattered Flower Garland die. Inside is a small pearl glued with glitter glue. Underneath the box is a little yellow and brown paint.

Muutama kukka on myös puutarhurin merkin alla. Merkki on leikattu vintage-skräppipaperista.

A few flowers found their way underneath the garderner's badge. I cut the badge from vintage scarpbooking paper.

Toivottavasti äitini puutarha kukoistaa yhtä värikkäänä ja aurinkoisena kuin kortti, jonka hän tulee saamaan!

I hope my mother's garden will flourish with colors and veggies like the card she will get soon!

Itsetehty sabluuna / Self-made stencil

Inspiroiduin keväisestä ilmasta ja Paperillan blogivierailijan Sanna Lippertin hienosta tutoriaali-videosta ja tein oman pienen sabluunan, jota käytin tässä raikkaassa kevätkortissa. Käykää tekin tsekkaamassa upea video (linkki)! :)

I got inspired by the warm and sunny spring weather and Paperilla's guest's Sanna Lippert's lovely tutorial video and made my own stencil, which I used on this spring card. You should also go check the video for more ideas (link, it's in Finnish, but the pictures are the most important anyway). :)

Sabluunan tein piirtoheitinkalvosta, joita minulla on ylimääräisinä vaikka kuinka monta (niitä ei juurikaan käytetä alkuperäiseen tarkoitukseen enää). Tähän touhuun kannattaa olla pienet ja terävät sakset, jotta pieniä reikiä saa leikattua tarkasti. Tuputin kolmea eri väriä Distress Ink -mustetta pienen sabluunan läpi kahdessa eri kulmassa. En pessyt sabluunaa välissä ja siksi värit sekoittuivat kivasti.

The stencil I made out of transparent film. I still have plenty of them and they are not really used for their original purpose as overhead projector films anymore. For the cutting I recommend small and sharp scissors, so cutting the small holes is more precise. I used three different Distress Ink colors and two different directions. I didn't wash the stencil in between so the color mixed up nicely. 

Käytin kortissa vanhaa kiiltokuvaa, jossa on lintu ja kukkasia. Eli juuri sitä, mitä keväällä näkee enemmän. Kiiltokuva ja alareunassa oleva kuviopaperi peittivät jonkin verran leimattua taustaa, mutta sitä jäi näkyviin vielä riittävästi. Leimasinvärit sopivat hienosti yhteen kuvan kanssa.

I used an old gloss picture with a bird and flowers. The picture fit perfectly for this time of year since those two you start to see more and more. The picture and the scrapbooking paper on the lower corner of the card cover some of the stencil print. The colors work really nicely with the picture.

Kortin nurkkaan päätin pitkän pohdinnan jälkeen liimata itsetehdyn napin (tehty Fimo-massasta niinkuin monet aiemmatkin nappini). Alareunaa koristaa valkoinen tyllikangas ja kukkainen nauha. Pelkkä nauha näytti niin tyhjältä, mutta tyllin kanssa se on just niinkuin pitää! 

After a long consideration I put a self-made button in the lower left corner (it's made out of Fimo modelling clay like most of my buttons). The lower side is also decorated with tulle and a flower ribbon. It looked a bit empty with just the ribbon, but the combination is perfect! 

Tekstin kirjoitin tällä kertaa käsin, jotta sain sen mahtumaan pieneen tilaan. Tekstipohjana käytin stanssia (Squares, Asymmetrical), jota en ole juurikaan käyttäny eli sekin on korttiaskartelussani uusi asia. :) Käytin stanssin kaikkia kokoja tässä. Kartonkipalasia kohotin eri kokoisilla kohotyynytarroilla (paksuudet 0,5; 1,5 ja 2,0 mm). 

The text I wrote myself this time so I could fit it in a smaller space. The text is written on cardboard I cut with a die (Squares, Asymmetrical) I have never used for cards. :) I used all the sized here and lifted them up with 3D stickers (thicknesses 0,5; 1,5 ja 2,0 mm).

Harvemmin tulee näytettyä kortin sisäosa. Nyt (kuten monesti muutoinkin) leimasin aiheeseen sopivan kuvan. Tällä tavalla saa nopeasti ja helposti kauniin sisäosan. Ulkopuolella on usein niin paljon krumeluuria, että haluan pitää sisäpuolen yksinkertaisena.

Rarely I show the inside of the card. Here (as many other times as well) I have stamped a nice picture inside. This is a fast and easy way to decorate the inside of a card. Outside are some many decorations and colors that I like to keep the inside simple.

Lopuksi kortti ylhäältä. Takaosassa ei ole kuin handmade-leima. Se ei muuta tarvii. :)

Here's the card still from above. On the back is a "Handmade with love" stamp. It doesn't need anything else. :)

Kukkakimppu - ohjeet / Flower bouquet - tutorial

Tein äitienpäiväksi kortteja, joissa on kukkakimppu. Edellisessä postauksessa (linkki) esitin kortit lähemmin ja nyt näytän, miten tein kukat. Se ei ole kauhean vaikeaa, mutta vaatii hieman sorminäppäryyttä.

I made cards with flower bouquets for Mother's Day. In the previous post (link) I presented the two cards closer and now I'll show you how I made the flowers. It's not difficult at all, just try it!

Tarvitset kukkiin:
* Värillistä paperia tai kartonkia
* (Vihreää) rautalankaa
Seuraavat eivät ole pakollisia, mutta hyödyllisiä:
* Pihdit rautalangan työstämiseen
* Tattered Florals -stanssi ja Big Shot -leikkuri (tai sakset)
* Pyöreäpäinen työkalu kukkien työstämiseen 

What you need for the flowers:
* Colorful paper or cardboard
* (Green) wire
The following are not obligatory, but very useful:
* Pliers for working with the wire
* Tattered Florals die and Big Shot (or scissors)
* Round-headed tool for working on the flowers 
 

Leikkasin kaksi pienintä kukkaa stanssilla (voihan ne leikata saksillakin). Kukkien keskelle tein saksilla pienen reiän, josta rautalanka on helpompi pujottaa läpi. Rautalangan pätkän toisen pään taitoin ympäri. Siitä tulee kukkasen sisus. Se voi olla toki muukin, mutta näin kukka oli helpompi toteuttaa.

I cut two small flowers with the die (of course cutting with scissors also works). I made a hole in the middle of the flowers, so I can more easily get the wire through the paper. The other side of the wire piece I folded round. It will become the inner part of the flower. It can also be something else, but this was easy to carry out.

Ostin viime viikolla embossaustyökalun (tai millä nimellä se nyt kulkeekaan) ja pyöristin kukan lehtiä softies-levyn päällä.

I bought an embossing tool last week (it might also have another name) and I used it on a softies piece to make the flower petals softer.

Pujoitin leikatut ja pyöristetyt kukkapaperit rautalangan läpi ja laitoin kukan alle liimaa, jotta ne pysyvät tiukasti ylhäällä paikoillaan. Käytin pikaliimaa, koska en jaksanut odottaa paperiliiman kuivumista. :)

Then I slid the wire through the paper and put glue under the paper, so it will stay on top. I used fast drying glue, because I didn't want to wait for the other glue to dry. :)

Kukka on valmis, kun liima on kuivunut!

When the glue is dry, the flower is ready!

Näitä voi sitten tehdä kuinka monta haluaa. Laitoin kortteihin viisi kukkasta, jotka solmin rusetilla yhteen.

You can make as many of these as you want. I put five flowers together with a ribbon on my cards.

Kukkia jäi paljon yli ja ne odottavat tällä hetkellä tyhjässä maustepurkissa tulevia askarteluhetkiä. Vaikka ovathan ne aika nättejä noinkin. :)

I made quite a few extra flowers that are now waiting in an empty spice flask for the future crafting moments. Although they look quite cute like that as well. :)

Kukkaset ovat suhteellisen yksinkertaisia tehdä, mutta kerro ihmeessä, jos kaipaat jotain lisävaihetta kuvasarjaan. Autan mielelläni. Toivottavasti innostuit tekemään pikkuruisia kukkakimppuja kortteihin tai koristeeksi. :)

LISÄYS / ADDITION 

Käytin näissä kukissa kastettua paperia. Paperi on joskus askartelun alkuaikoina saamaani ohutta paperia ja huomasin vahingossa, että se värjääntyy kivasti, kun se kastuu. Siksi aloin kastelemaan sitä myös tahallaan. :)

I used paper I had made wet. I got this thin paper when I started to craft and I accidentally made it wet and noticed that it actually looks really good after that. That's why I made later the paper wet on purpose. :)
 

Paperin voi kastaa esimerkiksi roiskuttamalla sormin vettä (yllä, paperi on vielä märkä) tai suihkepullolla (alla, paperit kuivuneita). Tällä tavalla sain siis lisää värinvaihtelua kukkiin. Helppoa, kokeile sinäkin! :)

You can make the paper wet by splashing water with your fingers on the paper (above, the paper is still wet) or by using a spray bottle (below, the papers have dried). This way I got more color variations on my flowers. It's easy, just try it! :)

Äitienpäiväkortteja kukkakimpulla / Mother's Day cards with a flower bouquet

Paperillan korttihaasteessa oli tällä kertaa itsetehdyt kukkaset. Innostuin tekemään useammankin kortin aiheesta, koska nyt keväällä näkee enemmän ja enemmän ihania kukkasia ulkona. Tässä kaksi erilaista vähän samantyylistä korttia kukkakimpulla. Kortit ovat äitienpäiväkortteja, koska silloinhan sopii antaa kukkia. :) Paperillan muut tiimiläiset tekivät myös oikein ihania kukkasia. The card challenge for Paperilla this time was self-made flowers. I was inspired to make several cards on that topic, because it's spring and there are starting to be many lovely flowers outside. I made two similar cards with a flower bouquet for Mother's Day (that's THE day to give flowers, right? :)). The other Paperilla team members made also some supernice flowers. Kukkaset leikkasin Tattered Florals -stanssilla. Se on kyllä ehdoton suosikkistanssini, koska se on niin monikäyttöinen! Leikatun paperin kastelin vedellä, jolloin väri ei ollut (tylsän) tasainen. Käytin myös kreppipaperia (ihan sellaisenaan, en kastettuna. Siinä on tarpeeksi ryppyjä, ettei se ole tylsä :)). Kukkakimpun ohjeet laitan erilliseen postaukseen, jotta ne eivät eksy tänne kuvien sekaan. OHJEET kukkakimppuun löytyvät siis täältä (linkki)!

The flowers I cut with the Tattered Florals die. It's definitely one of my favorite dies, because it can be used for so many different things! The paper I used I sprinkled with water to make the color less even and boring. I also used crepe paper (as such, not wet. It has enough wrinkles to be suitable for me :)). I put the tutorial for the flowers on a separate post, so it won't disappear between these pictures. The TUTORIAL you can find here (link)! 

Tekstikuvio on leikattu paperiaskartelulehdestä (en tosin enää muista, mistä lehdestä) ja sen alla olevat kiehkurat on leikattu Corners, Flourish #2 -stanssilla (joka on myös yksi suosikeistani).

The text is cut out of the papers that came with a magazine (I don't remember anymore which one) and the swirls underneath are cut with the Corners, Flourish #2 die (which is also one of my favorites).

Toisessa kortissa on vähän sama tyyli, mutta sitten se on kuitenkin erilainen. Kukkakimppu on tällä kertaa pakattu lahjapaperiin (joka on muuten ihan oikeaa lahjapaperia, jonka säästin, koska se oli niin hieno). 

The style on the other card is similar, but still the card is different. This time the flowers are wrapped in gift wrapping paper (which is actually real gift wrapping that I've saved because it was so nice).

Teksti on kirjoitettu kartonkiin, joka on väritetty vähän Distress Ink -musteella (brushed corduroy - suosikkini ruskeista väreistä). Tähän ei sopinut kirkas keltainen niin hyvin. Tekstipalluran alla on pinkkiä kartonkia, jonka päälle on leimattu pitsiä. Sitäkin on vähän tummennettu samalla musteella samasta syystä. :) Tässä kortissa on extrana lankaa ja vähän glitteriä.

The text is written on cardboard, that has gotten a touch of Distress Ink (brushed corduroy - my favorite brown). Bright yellow didn't fit well on this card. For the same reason the pink cardboard was colored from the edges. I used for the lace look an old stamp I haven't used at all so far. I really found new stuff in my spring cleaning. :D This card got some extra with yarn and glitter.

Äitienpäivä on piakkoin. Ehkä sinäkin voit tehdä kukkasia muistamaan äitejä? :)

Vintage synttärikortti / Vintage birthday card

Halusin tehdä tämän kortin vintage-tyyliin, koska tiesin, että vastaanottaja tykkää siitä. Toinen syy oli, etten ole tehnyt sellaisia juurikaan. Eli uutta minulle! En kuitenkaan osannut tehdä täysin "vanhan" näköistä kortti ja siksi tässäkin on vähän omia mausteitani eli glitteriä (yllätys! :D) ja itsetehty nappi muovailumassasta.

I was planning to make this birthday card with a vintage theme, because I knew that the receiver would like that. And another reason was that I have hardly done vintage cards so something new for me too! I didn't really know how to make and "old-looking" card, so also this one has a touch of me like glitter (surprise! :D) and a self-made button out of modelling clay.

Napin tein itse Fimo-muovailumassasta. Tein kerralla useampia eli niitä saattaa tupsahdella myöhemmin lisää. :)

The text is decorated with three flowers and some glitter.

Valkoisen pitsin värjäsin tummanruskeaksi Distress Ink -musteella, koska en halunut valkoista tähän korttiin.

The lace wasn't brown (and I didn't like white on this card), so I colored it with Distress Ink.

Tekstin takana oli vielä "turhaa tilaa" ja siksi heilauttelin vesiväripensseliä siellä muutaman kerran tuomaan lisää väriä. Taustassa on myös ruskeaa Distress Ink -mustetta. 

Behind the text was still some "extra space", which I filled with watercolor. The background has also Distress Ink.

Tällainen tällä kertaa. Jotain uutta taas seuraavaksi!

Vauvakortti virkatuilla pyykeillä / Baby card with crocheted laundry

Ystäväpariskunta sai kaksoset ja tein heille kortin, jossa roikkuu pyykkinarulla pojan paita ja tytön hame (tai miksei toisinpäin? :) ). 

My friend couple got twins and I made them a card, where there's a boy's shirt and a girl's skirt (or actually why not the other way around? :) ) hanging from a laundry line.

Katsoin Minnan Ku ite tekee, saa mitä tulee -blogista Tekniikkatorstai-videoita ja innostuin kokeilemaan Distress Ink -musteita ihan eri tavalla, miten olen aiemmin niitä käyttänyt. En nimittäin tajunnut, että musteiden kanssa voi käyttää vettä (musteet on nimittäin vesiliukoiset, mikä ei käynyt minulla edes mielessä)! Pienestä se on joskus kiinni. :D Käykää tekin kurkkimassa Minnan blogista uusia vinkkejä (linkki)! Tein pyykeille taustaksi pienen niityn, jolloin pääsin kokeilemaan heti uusia leimasimia, jotka ostin uusimman Quick Cards -lehden mukana.

I watched the Technique Thursday videos that Minna has on her blog and I got excited to try out Distress Ink in other ways than I'm used to. I didn't know that you can use water with them (since they are water-soluble which I didn't even think about)! Sometimes it can be a really small thing. :D You can also check her videos (they are quite understandable although they are in Finnish) and maybe get some new ideas as well (link)! I made a small meadow for the background so I could also test my new stamps I got with the new Quick Cards magazine.

Halusin tehdä aluksi kaksi eriväristä potkupukua, mutta en päässyt tyytyväiseen lopputulokseen virkkaamalla (en osaa neuloa, enkä halunut opetella sitä juuri nyt). Mutta näin tämä toimi oikeastaan ehkä jopa paremmin. 

I was actually planning to hang two overalls, but I wasn't satisfied with the results I got by crocheting (and I wasn't planning on learning how to knit just now). But it worked out quite well after all!

Käytin enimmäkseen kiinteitä silmukoita. Lopuksi virkkasin paitaan lisää ketjusilmukoita sivuille, jotta sain hihat. Hametta levensin pari kertaa ketjusilmukoilla ja lopuksi tein vähän "pitsiä" virkkaamalla neljä kiinteää silmukkaa samaan silmukkaan. Pitsipalluran päättelin aina piilosilmukalla. Hameesta tuli hieman liian leveä, joten kavensin sitä rypistämällä yläosaa vähäsen.

I used mainly single crochet stitches. I added some chain stitches at the end of the shirt, so I got the sleeves. The skirt I made wider a few times with chain stitches and at the end I made some "lace" by crocheting 4 single crochet into one stitch. I finished each lace with a slip stitch. The skirt became to wide, so I made it a bit more narrow by crinkling it at the top.

Pyykkinaru on paperinarua, jota päätin käyttää villalangan sijaan, koska en ole juurikaan tehnyt suurilla paperinarukasoilla mitään niiden ostamisen jälkeen. Tosin tähän korttiin narua ei kulunut juurikaan. :D Pyykkipojat löysin aarrekätköistäni siivouksen yhteydessä ja ne pääsivät heti käyttöön roikottamaan vaatteita. Jotka tosin liimasin korttiin kiinni, koska ne olisivat muuten olleet hieman muodottamat ja vallattomat.

The laundry line is paper yarn. I have plenty of it unused in my yarn box. Although I didn't really use that much now either. :D The clothespins I found during my cleaning and they matched perfectly here. I glued the clothes on the card although they were already attached with the pins, because they were a bit formless and "wild". 

Tekstin leimasin kaksi kertaa eli alkuperäinen teksti sai "varjon", koska halusin tuplata onnittelut. Kyseessähän oli tuplasti onniteltavaa. :)

The text I stamped twice. The original text got a "shadow" this way, because I wanted to double the congratulation wishes since there was double to be celebrated. :)

Eli virkkaus sopii tosi hyvin kortteihin! Itsetehtyjä taustoja tulee lisää! :)

As a conclusion, crocheting works perfectly on cards and I will make more backgrounds myself! :)

Wanhasta uuteen - osa 1 / From old to new - part 1

Kävin läpi vanhoja kuvia koneeltani ja löysin kuvia vanhoista korteista, jotka tein kauan sitten. Aloitin kortteilun kunnolla noin vuonna 2007. Sitä ennen tein silloin tällöin jotain, mutta tuona vuonna (tai ehkä vähän aiemmin jo) lopetin kokonaan korttien ostamisen ja siitä asti olen tehnyt kaikki kortit, jotka olen antanut tai lähettänyt. Korttien askartelu lähti siitä, kun löysin jollain kurssilla tekemäni paperia, enkä halunut heittää sitä pois vaan halusin hyödyntää sen jotenkin. Joten tein kortteja! :) 

I went through some old pictures from my computer and I found old pictures from my first handmade cards. I started making cards somewhere around the year 2007. I found handmade paper I had made in a course and I didn't want to throw it away. So I made cards! :) Since that time I haven't bought any cards anymore and all cards I have given or send have been handmade by me. 

Aloitan tänään sarjan, jossa esitän tekemiäni kortteja vuodesta 2007 nykyhetkeen. Samalla tekin näette, minkälaista kehitystä korteissani on ja onhan sitä! Eli hyvin yksinkertaisesta olen aloittanut ja päätynyt eri tekniikoita kokeilevaan rönsyilevään värikyyteen. :)

Today I will start a series, where I present my cards from the year 2007 to the present. Then you can also follow the progress I made during this time. I started with very simple cards and ended up using different techniques in well decorated and colorful cards.

Harmi, etten tajunnut ottaa kuvia ihan ensimmäisistä korteistani. Tässä on yksi kortti vuodelta 2007. Aluksi käytin pelkästään kierrätysmateriaaleja, kuten itsetehtyä värikästä paperia ja kankaita vanhoista vaatteistani. 

Too bad I didn't take pictures from my first cards. Here's a card from 2007. In the beginning I used only recycled materials like my handmade paper and fabrics from old clothes.

Seuraavana vuonna (kun itsetehty paperi alkoi pikkuhiljaa loppumaan, enkä ollut menossa samalle kurssille enää uudestaan), aloin printtaamaan onnittelutekstit, jotta sain niistä siistimmän näköisiä, kuin olisin ne itse kirjoittanut (vaikka sitäkin tein). Kukkaset oli jostain vanhasta hulahula-kaulakorusta. Paljetteja en muista - ne saattaa olla jopa ostetut! :)

Next year (when the handmade paper started to run out and I knew I wasn't going to the same course again), I started to print the text on the cards to make it look more clean-cut. The flowers are from an old hulahula necklace and the sequins I might have actually bought (I don't remember). :)

Seuraavaksi esittelen kortteja vuodelta 2009. Silloin tein jo paljon enemmän (tai ainakin kuvasin enemmän). :) Minkälainen oli sinun ensimmäinen korttisi?

Next I will present cards from 2009. Then I made already a lot more (or I just have more pictures of them). :) How did your first card look like?
