Lintukortteja / Cards with birds

Tein nyt keväällä useamman lintukortin. Löytämäni lintukirja on ollut täydellinen askarteluaarre! Nämä kolme korttia annettiin äitienpäivänä.

I made several bird cards this spring. The bird book that I had found has been an amazing craft treasure! These three cards were given on Mother's Day.

Tämä lintu toivotti veljelleni hyvää syntymäpäivää.

This bird wished my brother happy birthday.

Tämä pöllö pyytää ihanaa ihmistä treffeille. 

This owl is asking a wonderful person for a date.

Perhoskortti / Butterfly card

Kokeilin lisää Mica-jauheita sekoittamalla ne kohopastaan ja levittämällä sen taustalle. Mukana on leimoja, maalia (leimattu taas koeputkella), biokemian kirjan sivusta tehty kukka, kristallitarroja, chipboard-kuvioita ja tekstitarra. Yksityiskohtia lisäsin vielä langanpätkällä ja mistiroiskeilla.

I experimented more with my Mica powders by mixing it with light paste and applying it to the background. There's also stamps, paint (stamped again with a test tube), a flower rolled from a page out of a biochemistry book, crystal stickers, chipboards and a text sticker. I added more details with yarn and mist sprinkles. 

Sisälle tuli myös kemistileima. :)

I stamped a chemistry stamp also inside. :)

Kalaonnea / Fishing luck

Veljeni on innostunut kalastamisesta ja siksi kalat uivat myös hänen syntymäpäiväkorttiin. :)

My brother is excited about fishing and therefore the fish swam into his birthday card as well. :)

Onki on perinteinen mato-onki oikealla siimanpätkällä, jonka päässä on kala kiinni. Siima näkyy aika huonosti (mikä on toki sen alkuperäinen tarkoituskin). Onki on tehty rullaamalla ruskeaa paperia rautalangan ympärille.

The fishing rod is a traditional worm-fishing rod with a piece of real fishing line that has a fish hanging at the end. You can't see the fishing line really well (which is of course the original purpose of it). The fishing rod is is made by rolling brown paper around a piece of wire. 

 

Tässä kesällä tehdyssä kortissa on vähän vähemmän mixed mediaa kuin uusimmissa korteissa (kuten tässä onnittelukortissa, linkki). Aloitin maalien ynnä muiden pastojen käyttämisen pikkuhiljaa. Mutta koko ajan enemmän ja enemmän. :)

Here on the card made in the summer is a bit less mixed media than on the latest cards (like on this greeting card, link). I started to use paint and other pastes little by little. But all the time more and more. :)

Mixed media -onnittelut / Mixed media congratulations

Olen kokeillut enemmän ja enemmän mixed mediaa ja se on vienyt mukanani. Tässä on yksi kortti, jonka tein mixed media -tyyliin. Kortti meni tekniikan tohtoriksi valmistuneelle työkaverille ja siksi siinä on tekniikkaa mukana. :)

I've tried more and more mixed media, and I really love it. This is one card that I made with the mixed media style. This card was for my coworker who graduated as Doctor of Science and therefore there's some technology in it. :)

Japanihenkiset kortit / Japanese-style cards

Kesäloman Japanireissun jälkeen innostuin tekemään muutamia japani-aiheisia kortteja. Ostin kala-aiheista origamipaperia ja halusin tehdä sen avulla pieniä kalalampia kortteihin. Tein kaksi vähän erityylistä korttia, joissa hyödynsin myös aiemmin askartelulehdestä saatuja orientaalileimasimia. Lammen ympärillä olevat pikkukivet pyöräytin Fimo-massasta. Onneksi löysin valmiiksi kiven väristä massaa. :)

After our summer holidays in Japan I was inspired to make a few Japanese-themed cards. I bought fish-themed origami paper and I wanted to make fish ponds with it. I made two similar cards, where I also used oriental stamps I obtained previously from a crafting magazine. The small stones around the pond I rolled out of modelling clay. Fortunately, I found clay with stone-color. :)

Ensimmäinen kortti lähempää / A closer look on the first card 

Ostin kesän Japanin matkaltamme itselleni jonkin verran käsityötuliaisia. Tässä käytin seuraavia materiaaleja:

I bought myself some handicraft souvenirs from our Japan in the summer. Here I used the following materials:

- pyöreä leima / round stamp

- origamipaperia / origami paper

- teippi / masking tape

- japanilainen sanomalehti / Japanese newspaper

- skräppipaperia / scrapbooking paper

Toinen kortti / The second card

Tässä käytin lisäksi myös hauskaa karhutarraa ylläolevien materiaalien lisäksi.

In addition to the above named materials, I also used a fun bear sticker.

Kokeilin tässä myös pieniä helmiäni, jotka toivat lisää ulottuvuutta ja säihkettä kukkiin.

I used also my small pearls, which brought more dimension and sparkle to the flowers.

Mad -sarja / The Mad series

Löysin töistä vanhan kemikaaliturvallisuuskirjasen, jossa oli hauskoja kuvia. Niistä keksin sitten tehdä tämän Mad -sarjan ATC -kortteja (mad = hullu).

I found an old chemical safety booklet at work, which had some funny pictures. I made this Mad Series of ATC cards out of them.

I made a bunch of new ATC cards, because this is just so much fun! I wrote more about these crafted collecting cards in my previous post (link).

Ensimmäiset ATC-korttini / My first ATC cards

Löysin nyt uuden jutun paperiaskartelumaailmassa, johon jäin heti koukkuun: ATC-kortit! Nämä artist trade cards -kortit ovat keräilykortteja. Ensin askarrellaan oma ATC-kortti, jonka jälkeen se vaihdetaan toisen kanssa. Näin voi alkaa keräämään ihania minitaideteoksia! Minusta tämä on ihan mahtava idea! Näitä kortteja voi siis vain saada vaihtamalla, eikä esim. ostamalla. Ja huomasin tehdessäni, että tämä minikoko on yllättävän kiva! Siinä on testata ihan eri tavalla uusia juttuja, eikä siihen mene (ehkä) ihan niin paljon aikaa ja materiaaleja. Laitoin ehkä, koska onnistun käyttämään pieneenkin korttiin koko illan. :)

Now I found a new thing in the world of papercrafting, which hooked me right away: ATC! These artist trade cards are collectible cards. First you craft your own cards and then you exchange them with other crafters. This way you can collect lovely tiny works of art! I think this is an awesome idea! These cards can only be acquired through trading, instead of for example buying. This mini size is surprisingly nice. You are able to test new things more easy and (maybe) you don’t need as much time and materials. I put maybe, because depending on the card, even how small, I can still manage to use all night. :)

ATC-korteissa tekijällä on täysin vapaat kädet (voi leimata, maalata, piirtää, käyttää 3D-kuvia...), ainoastaan koko on säädelty. Kortin on oltava siis tasan tietyn kokoinen (64 x 89 mm). Tämä johtuu ymmärtääkseni siitä, että ne mahtuvat keräilykorteille tarkoitettuihin taskuihin. Näitä voi siis kerätä samoihin taskuihin kuin esim. jääkiekkokortteja aikoinaan (tosin elokuvatähdet ja bändit oli enemmän minun juttu, kun olin nuorempi). Toinen asia, mikä on hyvä muistaa, on, ettei saatuja kortteja saa vaihtaa eteenpäin. Eli yksi kortti vaihdetaan vain kerran.

With the ATC the crafter has totally free hands to do whatever (painting, drawing, collages, stamping, 3D pictures…), only the size is regulated. The card must be exactly a certain size (64 x 89 mm). This is because - as I have understood - they can fit into the pockets which are meant for collectible cards. These can therefore be collected in the same pockets as for example baseball cards (although film stars and bands was more my thing when I was younger). Another thing that you have to remember is that you are not allowed to exchange cards that are given to you. A card is only exchanged once.

Kortin taakse kirjoitetaan korttiteoksen nimi, tekijän nimi ja päivämäärä. Jos kyseessä on sarja kortteja, on ilmoitettava, kuinka monta sarjassa on (esim. 1/3, 2/3 ja 3/3). Lisäksi korttiin voi kirjoittaa, onko saajalla lupa julkaista kortista kuva. Tässä esimerkki, miten itse olen kirjoittanut kortin taakse. Aloitin heti muiden vinkistä numeroimaan korttini. Siksi yläosassa on “SV2”. Näin pysyy hyvin kärryillä, kuinka monta korttia on tehnyt. :)

In the back of the card you write the card title, the author's name and the date. In the case the card is a part of a series, it must say how many there are in the series (f.ex. 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3). In addition, you can write if the recipient is allowed to publish a picture the card. I started as a tip from other crafters to number my cards. That’s why there’s “SV2” at the top. This way you can follow how many cards you make. :)

And then I present these three ATC cards more closely.

Ensimmäiseen korttiin inspiraation sain, kun näin tämän tekstin ja kameran kuvan sisustusliikkeessä peltikyltissä. Tässä kortissa taustaa leimasin ja levitin Distress Ink -musteella väritettyä kohopastaa sabluunan läpi. Piirsin lisäksi lyijykynällä ympyröitä. Kameran alle laitoin paperia, tylliä, nauhaa ja lankaa. Lopuksi minikorttia koristaa kirkas puolihelmi, leikattu nuoli ja käsin kirjoitettu teksti. Eli onhan näin pienessäkin kortissa tekemistä, vaikka onkin yli puolet normaalia korttia pienempi. :)

I got the inspiration for the first ATC when I saw this quote and a camera on a tin sign in an interior design store. On the background I spread Distress Ink and ink colored light paste through a stencil. In addition I drew circles with a pencil. Under the camera I put paper, tulle, ribbon and thread. Finally the mini card was decorated with a clear dew drop, an arrow and hand-written text. Although this ATC is less than half of a normal card, there’s surprisingly a lot to do. :)

Huomio: Seuraavaksi pitää vaan muistaa piirtää lyijykynällä ennen kuin laittaa kohopastaa, koska muutoin ympyrästä ei tule yhtä kaunis. :)

Note to self: I have to draw the pencil lines before I put the paste. Otherwise the circles don't get so nice. :)

Seuraavassa kortissa perhoset lentävät kuin vapaat ideat hehkulampusta, mikä sopi hyvin keksimääni lauseeseen. Taustassa on sormin levitettyjä maaleja ja mikrokokoisia helmiä. Perhoset on leimattu paperiin ja leikattu. Niiden alla on tylliä korostamaan niitä taustasta ja antamaan niille lennokkaammat siivet. :) Hehkulamppu on myös leimattu ja leikattu. Lisäksi se sai hieman mustetta reunoihin. Koristeena on itserullattuja kukkia ja yksi valmis kukka. Tekstin kirjoitin taas käsin ja koristin sitä leimalla.

In the following card butterflies are flying free as ideas from a lamp, which was nicely combined with the phrase I came up with. The background paint is distributed with fingers. Here I tried micro-sized beads for the first time. The butterflies have tulle under them to highlight them from the background and to give them more airy wings. :) The lamp is also stamped and cut out. In addition I inked the edges a bit. As a decoration I put self-rolled flowers and one other flower. I wrote the text by hand again and decorated it with a stamp.

Viime vuonna tein samantyylisen pyöräkortin (linkki) ja halusin tehdä siitä päivitetyn miniversion. Vihreässä paperissa on leima (vaikka se ei kauheasti näykään) ja kohopastaa sabluunan läpi (tykkään tosi paljon tästä tekniikasta!!). Pyörä on leimattu suoraan pilvipaperiin, jossa yhtä pilveä korostettiin lyijykynällä. “Ruohon” ja “taivaan” välissä on nauhaa, pitsiä, kukkia, heteitä ja timanttitarroja. Pidän käsinkirjoitetusta tyylistä, jota jatkoin vielä tässäkin.

Last year, I did a bike card (link) and I wanted to make an updated miniversion of it. I stamped on the green paper (although you can’t really see it) and put paste through a stencil again (I just love this technique!!). The bike is stamped on the cloud paper directly and one cloud was highlighted with a pencil. Between the "grass" and "heaven" is a ribbon, lace, flowers, stamens and diamond stickers. I like the handwritten style which I did here as well.
