OKTK DT #70: Hahmolle suojain / Figure with a mask

 

Tammikuun OKTK-haasteessa (Oletko Koskaan Tehnyt Korttia) tehtiin ATC-kortti, jossa laitettiin hahmolle (ihminen, eläin tai joku muu) nenä- ja suusuojain. Olen aiemmin laittanut maskeja ihmisille, joten nyt katoin kalalle. Ehkä nekin tarvitsevat maskia, jos kaupungissa raivoaa tauti?!

In January in the OKTK challenge (abbreviation in Finnish "Have you ever made a card") we made an ATC, where we put a mask on a figure (a person, an animal or something/one else). I've put masks on people before, so now I gave one to a fish. Maybe they also need a mask, when there's a disease in the city (reference to the Finnish text "There's a disease in the city?")?!

Tein samalla myös sivun minun pieneen art journaliini, koska pidin ideasta niin paljon. Tämän kirjan yksi sivu on ATC-kortin kokoinen. Lisää kuvia tästä minikirjasta löytyy täältä. 

I made a page in my mini art journal as well, because I liked the idea so much. One page in this journal is the size of an ATC. You can find more pictures of this mini journal here. The text says "What is he planning to give? A kiss?".

New art journal out of pocket files / Uusi art journal

Sain töistä vanhoja riippukansioita. Näin niissä heti art journal -kirjan ja sellaisen niistä sitten teinkin. Pinosin niistä 10 ja sidoin ne yhteen.

 

I got some old used pocket files from work. I saw an art journal in them and that's what I did. I put 10 of them on top of each other and bound them together.

Tykkään käyttää kierrätysmateriaaleja kirjojen tekemiseen. Niillä on valmiiksi oma tarina (ja ne ovat usein myös ilmaisia!). :) Pidän erityisesti tämän kirjan ruskeasta taustaväristä ja koko on juuri sellainen, jota uudelle kirjalle halusinkin. Haluan tehdä hieman suurempia sivuja, koska haluan mennä oman mukavuusalueeni ulkopuolelle. Sillä tavalla voi n kehittää itseäni ja löytää samalla uusia kivoja juttuja. Jotain, mitä jäi mieleen Wanderlust-kurssin videoista.

I love using recycled materials to make art journals. They already have a their own story (and are often free!). :) I love the brown background color and the size is just what I was looking for in my new art journal. I want to make bigger spreads now. I'm trying to go out of my comfort zone every once in a while to develop myself further. And you can also find lovely new things. Something I picked up in the Wanderlust classes.

Kun sain kannen valmiiksi, halusin saman tien aloittaa myös sisäpuolelta. Innostuin heti tästä uudesta art journalista. Tykkään sienistä ja siksi ne olivat selkeä valinta ensimmäisen sivun aiheeksi. Sienet ovat tosi taiteellisia.

After finishing the cover for the art journal I did the first page right away as well. I got excited about my new art journal. I love mushrooms, so that was an easy choice for the theme. Mushrooms are very artistic.

 

Vasemmalle puolelle painoin sabluunan toisen puolen. Hyvä alku uudelle sivulle!

On the left side I put the stencil with the excess ink. That's already a good start for a new page!

Jehkotar CRAFTchallenge #14 DT: Joulukuu / December

Joulukuun Jehkotar CRAFTchallenge alkoi minulla kaupunkikuvalla, koska muistin, että minulla on kaupunkipapereita, jotka päätyivät tässä taustalle. Samalla inspiroi Suomen talvi.

My inspiration in December's Jehkotar CRAFTchallenge began with the city picture, because I remembered that I have a cityscape papers, which ended up in the background. At the same time the Finnish winter inspired me.

En juurikaan tee skräppisivuja, mutta nyt tuli sopiva fiilis tehdä sellainen.

I normally don't make scrapbook pages, but now I had the right feeling to make one.

 

Olen tänä vuonna oppinut käyttämään enemmän jämäpapereita ja kierrätyspapereita eri paikoista. Tässäkin on taustassa kirjekuoren sisäpuoli, jossa oli sopiva sininen kuvio talvimaisemaan.

This year I've learned to use more leftover papers and recycled papers from different places. Here, I've used the inside of an envelope, because it had a nice blue pattern on it that fit well with my winter theme.

Vielä ehtii osallistua haasteeseen! :)

Joulukuusen koristeita / Christmas tree decorations

Tänä vuonna hankimme ensimmäisen oman kuusemme ja toki askartelijan kodissa pitää olla myös itsetehtyjä koristeita kuusen oksilla! :)

Tämä jouluinen lumihiutalekoriste on yksinkertainen tehdä. Käytin pohjana kierrätyskartonkia, jonka värjäsin punaisella värisuihkeella (voisi myös maalata). 

This year, we bought our first own Christmas tree and of course crafter's home must also have handmade decorations on the tree! :)

This Christmas snowflake ornament is simple to do. As a basis I used recycled cardboard, which I dyed with red mist (could also be painted).

Päälle embossasin valkoisen ja glitterjauheen sekoituksella lumihiutaleleiman molemmille puolille. Leikkasin muodon ennen toiselle puolelle leimaamista, jotta sain sen osumaan paremmin kohdalle. Pyöristin kulmat, koska näin lumihiutale näyttää vähän myös piparilta. :) Lopuksi naru ja kuuseen roikkumaan!

On both sides I embossed a snowflake stamp with a mixture of white and glitter embossing powder. I cut the shape before stamping on the other side, so the positioning was easier. I rounded the corners, because then the snowflake looks also a little like a gingerbread. :) Finally, the rope and it's ready to hang on the tree!

Paperilla DT: Muistojen art journal / Art journal for memories

Tein aiemmin keväällä Wanderlust-kurssin innoittamana oman art journal -kirjan sekalaista sivuista (löytyy täältä). Vaikka kirja ei ole läheskään täynnä muistoja vielä, halusin jo tehdä uuden. Ja tällä kertaa halusin laittaa mukaan vielä sekalaisempia sivuja! Ensimmäisen kirjani jälkeen katselin papreitani ihan eri silmällä ja säästin mitä jännempiä sivuja seuraavaa kirjaa varten. Nappasin pienen vinkin myös Mystelen Wanderlust -opetusvideosta: hän käytti puisessa taulussaan myös lastensa läksyjä, josta keksin käyttää pikkusisarusteni piirrustuksia ja omia vanhoja kokeita kouluajoilta (jotka olin säästänyt kaikki nämä vuodet). Kirja on tyhjänäkin jo muistoja täynnä! Niitä voi vain lisätä ja lisätä liimaamalla kuvia, pääsylippuja ja tekstejä tai kirjoittamalla päiväkirjaomaisesti tapahtumia tai inspiroivia lauseita. Kirjaan voi myös piirtää. Eli ei haittaa, jos osa sivuista on yksipuolisia. Niiden takapuolta voi käyttää juurikin kirjoittamiseen tai piirtämiseen. Kirjasta tulee upea muistojen paketti kannesta kanteen.

Earlier in the spring I made my very first own art journal with miscellaneous pages inspired by the Wanderlust class (you can find it here). Although the book is not nearly full of memories yet, I want to make a new one already. And this time I wanted to put even more random pages in my book! After my first art journal I saw all my papers in a completely different light and I saved more and more exciting papers for the next book. Mystele's Wanderlust class gave me an idea: on her wooden painting she also used her children's homework so I used my little sister's and brother's drawings as well as my own exam papers from school (which I had saved all these years). The book is already empty full of memories! More memories can be added by gluing photos, tickets and texts or by writing like in a diary or inspiring phrases. You can also draw in it, too. So it doesn't matter if some of the pages are one-sided. The back side can be used for writing and drawing. The book will be a magnificent memories package from cover to cover.

Kirjoja voi tehdä erikokoisia. Tein nyt pienemmän matkalle mukaan. Valmiiksi leikattuja sivuja jäi reilusti yli eli teen pian toisen (ja ehkä kolmannenkin kirjan) vielä, joka on vähän suurempi. Siihen kerään kotona muistoja.

These art journal books can be made in different sizes. Now I made a smaller one that I'll take with me on my next trip. I have still a bunch of ready-cut papers left, so I'll soon make a second (and perhaps a third) book still, which will be a bit bigger than this one. In that one I will collect memories at home.

Sivuina käytin seuraavissa kuvissa esiintyvien lisäksi myös kirjekuoria, julisteita, biokemian kirjan sivuja, tietokirjan sivuja, sarjakuvakirjan sivuja, hienoja mainosjulisteita, vanhoja kellastuneita käyttöturvallisuustiedotteita (löytöjä töistä), iso paperikassi ja tapahtuman ohjekirja. Kirjekuorilla ja paperipusseilla saa kirjaan taskuja, joihin voi sujauttaa pientä kivaa.

I used papers presented in the following pictures, but also envelopes, posters, biochemistry book pages, comic book pages, advertising posters, old yellowed safety data sheets (discoveries from work), a large paper bag and an event program. With the envelopes and paper bags you get pockets to put nice thingsies in.

Tein vaihe vaiheelta ohjeet kuvineen Paperillan blogiin (ohjeet löytyy täältä). Tässä lyhennetty versio.

I made a step by step tutorial with pictures in the Paperilla blog (it's in Finnish and can be found here). Here's the short version.

1. - 2. vaihe / steps 1 - 2

Valitse paperit ja leikkaa ne haluamasi kokoiseksi. Taita ne noin keskeltä. Huomioi, ettei kaikkien sivujen tarvitse olla samankokoisia eikä niitä tarvitse taittaa aina keskeltä! Päätä sivujen järjestys.  

Choose your papers and cut them to the desired size. Fold them in the middle(ish). Note that all pages don't have to be in the same size and they don't have to be folded the same way! Choose the order of your pages.

3. - 10. vaihe / Steps 3 - 10

Leikkaa pahvista kirjalle kannet kartongista (mikä tahansa kierrätyskartonki kelpaa). Teippaa kartonginpalat yhteen keskeltä reilun kokoisella ilmastointiteipin palalla. Jätä paljon tilaa kartonkien väliin (tilan koko riippuu kirjan paksuudesta). Leikkaa reilun kokoinen kangaspala ja liimaa se kanteen. Leikkaa kaksi paperinpalaa ja liimaa ne sisäkansiin. Rei'itä sivut ja kansi. Sido kirja narulla (yksinkertainen tapa löytyy Paperillan blogista). Sitten kirja on valmis! 

Cut the book covers out of cardboard (any kind of recycled cardboard will do). Tape the cardboard pieces together. Leave some space in between (the amount of space depends on the thickness of the book). Cut out a big piece of fabric and glue it to on the cover. Cut two pieces of paper and glue them on the inside covers. Make holes in the pages and the cover. Tie the book with string (I'm showing a simple way in the Paperilla blog). And then the book is finished!

Kannen voi halutessaan koristella. Tämän kirjan olen ottamassa seuraavalle matkalle mukaan ja siksi se ei ole runsaasti koristeltu (ettei koristeet irtoile laukussa tai tuo lisää painoa). Jotta tämä art journal pysyy menossa mukana, pyöräytin sen ympärille paksua narua. Tällä tavalla toivottavasti kynätkin pysyvät mukana.

The cover can be decorated. I'll take this art journal on my next trip and therefore it's not decorated that much (embellishments might fall off in my bag or add more weight). To keep this art journal closed, I rolled a thick rope around it. I hope this way also my pens will be kept close.

Sisäpuoltakin voi tässä vaiheessa jo koristella ja pieniä taskuja voi lisäillä tägien kanssa tai ilman. Tägeilla saa lisää tilaa kirjoittaa (ehkä jotain salaistakin jopa).

The inside can also be decorated at this stage and small pockets can be added with or without tags. With tags you get more space to write (even secret things).

Yhteen taskuun laitoin piirtoheitinkalvolle washiteipin palasia. Näillä voin matkalla teipata juttuja kirjaan ilman, että ne häviävät. Kirjan taskut toimivat myös säilytykseen.

In one pocket I put washi tape pieces on a transparent plastic film (used on overhead projectors). With the tapes I can tape stuff in the book without loosing them on the way back home. The pockets in the book also function as storage.

Kirjan kannen kankaan ostin edelliseltä Hollannin reissulta. Se päätyi tämän kirjan kanteen, koska menemme taas Hollantiin. :) Siksi myös naru on oranssi (oranssihan on "hollantilainen väri") ja jotkut sivut liittyvät Hollantiin tai aiempaan matkaamme.

The fabric on the book cover I bought in our previous trip to the Netherlands. I put it here, because we are going to the Netherlands again. :) Therefore, the yarn is also orange (orange is a very "Dutch color") and some of the pages are related to the Netherlands or our previous trip.

Wanderlust book: Everything that happened today

Taiteilin seuraavan art journal -sivun Wanderlustin inspiraatiosta "Kaikki mitä tapahtui tänään". Annoin kirjan sivujen näkyä (peitin ne vain kirkkaalla gessolla) ja kirjoitin musteella ja mustekynällä päälle (tämä on muuten mahtava tapa kirjoittaa! - löysin tämän juuri!), mitä oli tapahtunut ja vähän ajatuksia päälle (vähän kuten päiväkirjassa). Sitten kuluikin viikko ennen kuin ehdin jatkaamaan työtä ja siksi aiheen "tämä päivä" vähän venyi. :) Pitää harjoitella vielä lisää art journal -kirjoittamista, jotta siitä tulisi taiteellisemman näköistä. :)

I made an art journal page from the Wanderlust prompt "Everything that happened today." I let the book pages show in the background (I only covered them with clear gesso) and I wrote with black ink and an ink pen (this is an awesome way to write by the way! - just found this!) what had happened and some thoughts (a bit like a diary). Then a week passed before I could continue with this, so the "today" is here a bit stretched. :) I should keep practicing my art journal writing to get a more artistic look to it. :)

Sivuilla hyödynsin kierrätysmateriaaleja, joita keräsin töissä romulaatikosta. Siellä oli parin laboratorion siivous ja tyhjennys menossa ja menin heti kurkkimaan, mitä poisheitettävistä "roskista" voisin hyödyntää askartelussa. Työkaverit vähän ihmettelivät, kun näkivät, mitä nappasin mukaan.  :D Pienimmät "koristeet" päätyivät tälle sivulle. Suurimmat löydöt odottavat vielä laatikossa suurempaa canvas-projektia. Vielä suuremmat ja painavat jouduin jättämään (ehkei ihan kaikkea tarvitse ottaa mukaan :)).

I used recycled materials that I had collected at work out of a scrap box. They were cleaning and emptying some laboratory space and I went immediately to have a look if some of the "trash" could be useful for me. My co-workers did wonder a bit, when they saw what I took. :D The smallest "decorations" ended up on this page. The bigger treasures are still waiting in my the box for a larger canvas project. Even larger and heavier ones I had to leave behind (I shouldn't grab everything :)).

Liimasin sivulle taustaan mm. paperinpalasia, jotka tulivat varaosien mukana (vanhan näköiset numerot on makeen näköiset - eikä tarvinnut mitään edes leimata!), vanhoja maalarinteipin palasia (80-luvulta? - niin vanhoja, että taustan liima oli ihan kuivunut) ja pieni pitkulainen varaosa, joka sopi täydellisesti perhosen vartaloksi.

On the background I glued small pieces of paper that came with old spare parts (old number prints look cool - and no stamping needed!), old pieces of masking tape (from the 80's? - so old that the glue on the back was all dry) and a small long spare part, which fit perfectly for the butterfly's body.

Taustalla on kirjoituksen lisäksi tietenkin maalia, kohopastaa ja mistiä. :)

And of course in addition to the writing also paints, paste and mists. :)

Käytin taustassa myös töistä löytämiäni leimasimia, jotka ovat poistuneet käytöstä. Toinen on rikki (kuten näkyy - eli täydellinen mixed mediaan! :D) ja toisen teksti on vanhentunut (korkeakoulu vaihtoi nimensä).

I used on the background also old outdated stamps I found at work. One of them is broken (as you can see - so perfect for mixed media! :D) and the other one's text is fine, but old, because the university changed its name).
