Paperilla DT: Joulukuusikortti / Christmas tree card

Halusin kokeilla uusia Brusho-jauheitani ja tehdä yksinkertaisen joulukortin, joka on helppo tehdä useampana kappaleena. Tein kaksi samantyylistä korttia: toisessa on mixed media -tausta ja toisessa ei. Kortti toimii mainiosti myös pelkällä kuviopaperitaustalla.

"Maalasin" Brusho-väreillä kartongin vihreän väreillä. Brusho-jauheet ovat vahvoja vesiliukoisia värejä jauhemuodossa. Yksi tekniikka, jota näillä voi käyttää on yksinkertainen ravista ja sumuta -tekniikka. Brusho-purkin korkkiin tehdään reiät ja siitä ravistetaan jauhetta kartongille (tai paperille), kuten suolaa ruokaan. Kartonki sumutetaan ennen tai jälkeen vedellä, jolloin värit leviävät kauniisti. Liian veden voi halutessaan tuputtaa varovasti pois.

Tästä kartongista leikkasin neljä hieman erikokoista kolmiota. Yhden reunan leikkasin kuviosaksilla. Taittelin niitä hieman, jolloin kuusi on kolmiulotteinen.

I wanted to try my new Brusho powders and make a simple Christmas card with them, which would be easy to make in several copies. I made two of the same style of cards: one with a mixed media background and one without. The card looks nice also with just a lovely paper in the background.

 
I "painted" green colors with Brusho powders. Brusho powders are water-soluble paints in powder form. One technique that can be used with them is simply shake and spray. Make some holes on top of the Brusho jar and shake some powder on cardboard (or paper), like salt on food. The cardboard is sprayed before or after with water to spread the colors beautifully. Excessive water can be taken carefully away.

 
From this cardboard I cut four little triangles of different sizes. One edge of the triangle I cut with pattern scissors. They are folded a little bit to give a three-dimensional look.

Taustalla on gessoa sutattu pensselillä kuusen taakse. Sumutin Brusho-jauheista tehtyä väriliuosta sabluunan läpi gesson päälle. Lopuksi levitin kohopastaa lumihiutalesabluunan läpi (Tim Holtzin malli) ja ravistelin sen päälle glitterjauhetta.

Väriliuoksen tein lisäämällä pienen määrän Brusho-jauhoa ja vettä pieneen sumutepulloon. Pieni sekoitusravistelu ja valmis. Toivoin, että tällä tavalla minun ei tarvitsisi ostaa mistipulloja - tai ainakaan niin montaa. :D

In the background is gesso brushed randomly behind the tree. Then I sprayed color solution made out of Brusho powders through the stencil on the gesso. Finally, I spread light paste through a snowflake stencil (Tim Holtz's model)  and shook some glitter powder over it.

The color solution I made by adding a small amount of Brusho powder and water to a small spray bottle. Light shaking and it's ready. I was hoping that this way I wouldn't need to buy mists - or at least not so many. :D

Kuusi sai erilaisista puolihelmistä joulupalloja koristukseksi.

The tree was decorated with a variety of half-pearls as Christmas ornaments.

Tähti ja kuusen jalka on tehty kierrätysmateriaaleista. Leikkasin Big Shotilla aaltopahvista tähden, jonka maalasin Inka Gold -vahalla. Kuusen jalka on kaarnaa, jota keräsin kesällä mestäretkellä. 

The star and tree trunk are made from recycled materials. I cut the star with my Big Shot from corrugated cardboard, which I painted with Inka Gold wax. The tree stem is natural bark, which I collected in the summer from the forest.

Kuten aiemmin mainistin, kortti toimii mainiosti myös ilman mixed media -taustaa. Silloin kuusi tulee paremmin esille. Itse tykkään niin kovasti suihkia maalia ja väriä ympäriinsä, että teen usein kaikkea muuta kuin yksinkertaisen kortin, vaikka se oli alkuperäinen tarkoitus. Siksi tein nyt kaksi versiota. :)

As I mentioned earlier, the card works perfectly with or without the mixed media background. Actually without the extra stuff in the background the tree is more clear. But I like paint and color everything everywhere, so my simple card ends up not being a simple card anymore. That's why I now have two versions. :)

Iso kollaasikortti / Big collage card

Tein noin kolme kertaa suuremman kortin kuin aiemmin, jossa halusin käyttää mahdollisimman paljon erilaisia tekniikoita. Tässä on leikattu, liimattu, leimattu, sommiteltu, maalattu sormin ja sabluunan läpi, ommeltu, massailtu, tuputettu mustetta suoraan tai sabluunan läpi ja stanssattu. Tämän kollaasin on tarkoitus kuvastaa sekä vapaa-ajan että työminää: olen iloinen ja luova ja olen kasvattanut bioreaktorissa (oikea alanurkka) homesieniä (vasen alanurkka - oikeasti kasvattamani sienet eivät näyttäneet ollenkaan tältä :D) ja hiivoja (kaatunut hiivanäytepurkki keskellä).

I made a card that was three times bigger than all the others. I wanted to use as much different techniques that I could use at this point. Here I have cut, glued, stamped, composed, painted with fingers and through a stencil, sewed, made clay decorations, inked straight on the paper and through a stencil and cut with dies. This collage is supposed to show a little of me as a work person and in my free time: I'm a happy and creative person who has cultivated fungi (left lower corner - actually they never looked like that :D) and yeast (the spilled sample bottle in the middle) in a bioreactor (lower right corner).

Tämä valokuva kertoo luovasta hulluudestani, joka on minulle tärkeää. Pitää välillä olla vähän hyvällä tavalla hullu. :) Kuvan ympärille olen tuputtanut Distress Ink -mustetta lempisabluunani läpi. Uudella stanssilla leikattu teksti sopii hyvin kuvaan.  

This picture shows my crazy creativity, which is important to me. One has to be a little good kind of crazy every now and then. :) I put Distress Ink through my favorite stencil around the picture. The text cut out with my new die fits perfectly with the picture.

Kuvan vieressä on minipullo, jonka etiketissa kerrotaan sen olevan hiivanäyte (yhden hiivan nimi oli Pichia). Se on kaatunut, jolloin pienet hiivapallurat valuvat sieltä ulos - sekä muutama punainen (epätoivottu) kontaminaatio. Tämä on tuttua hiivakaulakorustani, jonka tein aiemmin (linkki). 

Next to the picture I put a small bottle with the label Pichia sample (my yeast was called Pichia - at least one of them was). The bottle is fallen down so the yeast balls roll out - in addition to a few (unwelcome) contaminations. This is familiar from my yeast jewelry (link) from before.

Kun tein minisienikaulakoruni (linkki), siitä jäi muutama sieni yli, jotka hyödynsin tässä kortissa. Ne kasvavat kortin alanurkassa sammaleesta. Sammal on vihreää karvalankaa, jonka ompelin käsin korttiin.

When I made my minimushrooms for my necklace (link), I had a few left over, which I made use of in this card. They grow on moss, which was furry yarn that I sewed on the cardboard. 

Biotekniikkateema jatkuu PCR-koeputkilla, joita koristaa muutama kukkanen. Putkien sisällä on kahta lempiglitterväriäni. :) Vieressä on koulukirjakuva bioreaktorista. Sellaisessa olen kasvattanut paljon hiivoja ja sieniä!

The biotechnology theme continues with small PCR test tubes, that are decorated with a few lovely flowers. Inside the tubes are my two most favorite glitter glue colors. :) Next to them I placed a school book picture of a bioreactor. In one of those I have cultivated a lot of yeast and fungi!

Maalia päätyi korttiin sormin tuputettuna ja sabluunan läpi maalattuna. 

Paint was distributed with fingers and with a paintbrush through a stencil.

Kuvan yläpuolella iso kukka leikattu erilaista kangaspaloista. Keskellä oleva nappi on tehty itse vanhasta printtipaidasta (ne toimii parhaiten!). Kukan alta puskee lehtiä, joita on väritetty punaisella musteella.

Above the picture is a big flower cut out of different fabric pieces. The button in the middle I have made myself out of an old print T-shirt (they work the best!). From underneath red leaves are growing (with inked edges).

Ylänurkassa on taustassa leima ja kohopastaa. Tätä kevyttä koostumusta on tosi ihanaa käyttää. Aiemmin olen käyttänyt jotain halvempia maaleja, mutta joskus kannattaa panostaa laatuun. :)

In the above left corner I used a stamp and light paste. I was positively surprised by the light and easy-to-use consistency. Previously I have only used cheap paints and you can really feel the difference. Sometimes it's good to pay a bit more for quality. :)

Meinasin aluksi leikata reunan tasaiseksi, mutta päätinkin jättää sen tuolla tavalla, miten se sattumalta meni, kun liimasin palaset siihen kiinni. Tein tätä monen monta iltaa ja olen tyytyväinen lopputulokseen. Tämä askartelu on hyvin aikaa vievää, mutta oikein mukavaa puuhaa!

I planned to straighten the edges, but it looked quite nice like this, so I left it. I crafted this many many evenings at home, but I'm happy with the result. This papercrafting is time consuming but so much fun!

Kukkakimppu - ohjeet / Flower bouquet - tutorial

Tein äitienpäiväksi kortteja, joissa on kukkakimppu. Edellisessä postauksessa (linkki) esitin kortit lähemmin ja nyt näytän, miten tein kukat. Se ei ole kauhean vaikeaa, mutta vaatii hieman sorminäppäryyttä.

I made cards with flower bouquets for Mother's Day. In the previous post (link) I presented the two cards closer and now I'll show you how I made the flowers. It's not difficult at all, just try it!

Tarvitset kukkiin:
* Värillistä paperia tai kartonkia
* (Vihreää) rautalankaa
Seuraavat eivät ole pakollisia, mutta hyödyllisiä:
* Pihdit rautalangan työstämiseen
* Tattered Florals -stanssi ja Big Shot -leikkuri (tai sakset)
* Pyöreäpäinen työkalu kukkien työstämiseen 

What you need for the flowers:
* Colorful paper or cardboard
* (Green) wire
The following are not obligatory, but very useful:
* Pliers for working with the wire
* Tattered Florals die and Big Shot (or scissors)
* Round-headed tool for working on the flowers 
 

Leikkasin kaksi pienintä kukkaa stanssilla (voihan ne leikata saksillakin). Kukkien keskelle tein saksilla pienen reiän, josta rautalanka on helpompi pujottaa läpi. Rautalangan pätkän toisen pään taitoin ympäri. Siitä tulee kukkasen sisus. Se voi olla toki muukin, mutta näin kukka oli helpompi toteuttaa.

I cut two small flowers with the die (of course cutting with scissors also works). I made a hole in the middle of the flowers, so I can more easily get the wire through the paper. The other side of the wire piece I folded round. It will become the inner part of the flower. It can also be something else, but this was easy to carry out.

Ostin viime viikolla embossaustyökalun (tai millä nimellä se nyt kulkeekaan) ja pyöristin kukan lehtiä softies-levyn päällä.

I bought an embossing tool last week (it might also have another name) and I used it on a softies piece to make the flower petals softer.

Pujoitin leikatut ja pyöristetyt kukkapaperit rautalangan läpi ja laitoin kukan alle liimaa, jotta ne pysyvät tiukasti ylhäällä paikoillaan. Käytin pikaliimaa, koska en jaksanut odottaa paperiliiman kuivumista. :)

Then I slid the wire through the paper and put glue under the paper, so it will stay on top. I used fast drying glue, because I didn't want to wait for the other glue to dry. :)

Kukka on valmis, kun liima on kuivunut!

When the glue is dry, the flower is ready!

Näitä voi sitten tehdä kuinka monta haluaa. Laitoin kortteihin viisi kukkasta, jotka solmin rusetilla yhteen.

You can make as many of these as you want. I put five flowers together with a ribbon on my cards.

Kukkia jäi paljon yli ja ne odottavat tällä hetkellä tyhjässä maustepurkissa tulevia askarteluhetkiä. Vaikka ovathan ne aika nättejä noinkin. :)

I made quite a few extra flowers that are now waiting in an empty spice flask for the future crafting moments. Although they look quite cute like that as well. :)

Kukkaset ovat suhteellisen yksinkertaisia tehdä, mutta kerro ihmeessä, jos kaipaat jotain lisävaihetta kuvasarjaan. Autan mielelläni. Toivottavasti innostuit tekemään pikkuruisia kukkakimppuja kortteihin tai koristeeksi. :)

LISÄYS / ADDITION 

Käytin näissä kukissa kastettua paperia. Paperi on joskus askartelun alkuaikoina saamaani ohutta paperia ja huomasin vahingossa, että se värjääntyy kivasti, kun se kastuu. Siksi aloin kastelemaan sitä myös tahallaan. :)

I used paper I had made wet. I got this thin paper when I started to craft and I accidentally made it wet and noticed that it actually looks really good after that. That's why I made later the paper wet on purpose. :)
 

Paperin voi kastaa esimerkiksi roiskuttamalla sormin vettä (yllä, paperi on vielä märkä) tai suihkepullolla (alla, paperit kuivuneita). Tällä tavalla sain siis lisää värinvaihtelua kukkiin. Helppoa, kokeile sinäkin! :)

You can make the paper wet by splashing water with your fingers on the paper (above, the paper is still wet) or by using a spray bottle (below, the papers have dried). This way I got more color variations on my flowers. It's easy, just try it! :)

Äitienpäiväkortteja kukkakimpulla / Mother's Day cards with a flower bouquet

Paperillan korttihaasteessa oli tällä kertaa itsetehdyt kukkaset. Innostuin tekemään useammankin kortin aiheesta, koska nyt keväällä näkee enemmän ja enemmän ihania kukkasia ulkona. Tässä kaksi erilaista vähän samantyylistä korttia kukkakimpulla. Kortit ovat äitienpäiväkortteja, koska silloinhan sopii antaa kukkia. :) Paperillan muut tiimiläiset tekivät myös oikein ihania kukkasia. The card challenge for Paperilla this time was self-made flowers. I was inspired to make several cards on that topic, because it's spring and there are starting to be many lovely flowers outside. I made two similar cards with a flower bouquet for Mother's Day (that's THE day to give flowers, right? :)). The other Paperilla team members made also some supernice flowers. Kukkaset leikkasin Tattered Florals -stanssilla. Se on kyllä ehdoton suosikkistanssini, koska se on niin monikäyttöinen! Leikatun paperin kastelin vedellä, jolloin väri ei ollut (tylsän) tasainen. Käytin myös kreppipaperia (ihan sellaisenaan, en kastettuna. Siinä on tarpeeksi ryppyjä, ettei se ole tylsä :)). Kukkakimpun ohjeet laitan erilliseen postaukseen, jotta ne eivät eksy tänne kuvien sekaan. OHJEET kukkakimppuun löytyvät siis täältä (linkki)!

The flowers I cut with the Tattered Florals die. It's definitely one of my favorite dies, because it can be used for so many different things! The paper I used I sprinkled with water to make the color less even and boring. I also used crepe paper (as such, not wet. It has enough wrinkles to be suitable for me :)). I put the tutorial for the flowers on a separate post, so it won't disappear between these pictures. The TUTORIAL you can find here (link)! 

Tekstikuvio on leikattu paperiaskartelulehdestä (en tosin enää muista, mistä lehdestä) ja sen alla olevat kiehkurat on leikattu Corners, Flourish #2 -stanssilla (joka on myös yksi suosikeistani).

The text is cut out of the papers that came with a magazine (I don't remember anymore which one) and the swirls underneath are cut with the Corners, Flourish #2 die (which is also one of my favorites).

Toisessa kortissa on vähän sama tyyli, mutta sitten se on kuitenkin erilainen. Kukkakimppu on tällä kertaa pakattu lahjapaperiin (joka on muuten ihan oikeaa lahjapaperia, jonka säästin, koska se oli niin hieno). 

The style on the other card is similar, but still the card is different. This time the flowers are wrapped in gift wrapping paper (which is actually real gift wrapping that I've saved because it was so nice).

Teksti on kirjoitettu kartonkiin, joka on väritetty vähän Distress Ink -musteella (brushed corduroy - suosikkini ruskeista väreistä). Tähän ei sopinut kirkas keltainen niin hyvin. Tekstipalluran alla on pinkkiä kartonkia, jonka päälle on leimattu pitsiä. Sitäkin on vähän tummennettu samalla musteella samasta syystä. :) Tässä kortissa on extrana lankaa ja vähän glitteriä.

The text is written on cardboard, that has gotten a touch of Distress Ink (brushed corduroy - my favorite brown). Bright yellow didn't fit well on this card. For the same reason the pink cardboard was colored from the edges. I used for the lace look an old stamp I haven't used at all so far. I really found new stuff in my spring cleaning. :D This card got some extra with yarn and glitter.
