Halloween pocket letter

Ostin ihania Halloween-aiheisia papereita ja kysyin, kuka haluaisi vaihtaa tällä aiheella pocket letterin. Sainkin kolme kiinnostunutta, joten tein samalla kolme kirjettä mixed media -tyyliini.

I love Halloween, because then you can craft everything exciting and creepy. That’s a bit strange, because I don’t like any horror movies. :)

I bought lovely Halloween-themed papers and I asked who would like to swap a Halloween pocket letter with me. I got three people interested, so I did three similar letters with my mixed media style. Altough they are made with quite the same style, they have some differences. All cards are always unique! I described pocket letters more closely in my previous post (link).

Kaikki kolme pocket letteriä / All three pocket letters

Yksi pocket lettereistä edestä (käytän tätä esimerkkikirjeenä, kun esittelen kortit tarkemmin).

One of the pocket letters from the front (I will present this one from up close)

Sama takaa / The same from behind

Toinen kirje edestä / Another pocket letter from the front

Kolmas kirje edestä / The third pocket letter from the front

Seuraavaksi esittelen kirjeet lähikuvina. / Next I will present the letters in detailed pictures.

Osa koristeista / Some of the decorations

Roikkuva pääkallohelmi ja "myrkkypullo" / Hanging skull pearl and "poison flask"

Jälkimmäiseen maalasin reunat oranssiksi, jotta sain (aiheeseen kuulumattoman) logon poistettua. Sitten se sopii täydellisesti. :)

Evil pins from the Loot crate we got (it had the theme Villains that time). On the latter one I painted the edges orange, so I could cover the logo (that didn't belong with the theme). Then it fited perfectly. :)

I painted the fish and chain black, because the shiny metal didn't look good.

Alussa esittelin yhden kirjeen ensimmäisen rivin edestä. Tässä ne ovat lähempää.

In the beginning I presented the first row of one letter from the front. Here they are shown a bit closer.

This skeleton I printed from the Internet (I didn't have enough Halloween stamps :)) and colored it with Distress Ink. It got a hat and a stick, becoming a skeleton wizard. The stick is a piece of branch and the stone from an old broken necklace.

This dancing skeleton is embossed with white embossing powder and the bats are soft matte gel with black paint applied through a stencil.

Ensimmäinen rivi takaa / The first row from the back

Käytin korteissa tarroja (koska sellaisia tuli papereiden mukana) ja mikrohelmiä.

I used some stickers (they came with the papers I bought) and micro beads.

I tried to put Inka Gold through a stencil as well, but it does not work quite as nicely, because it loosens much easier from the card also after drying.

This card I painted black and put a layer of clear crackle paint on top. The cracks don't show very well, but there they are! The eyes are painted with a white and black pen.

Toisen kirjeen ensimmäinen rivi / The first row of another letter

Toinen rivi edestä / The second row from the front

Join Tokiossa salsafestivaaleissa meksikolaista olutta ja nappasin pullonkorkit mukaani. Nehän sopivat täydellisesti aiheeseen. Kyllä myyjä hieman ihmetteli, kun kysyin, saanko viedä korkit mukanani. :)

I had a Mexican beer in a salsafestival in Tokyo and took the bottle caps with me. After all, they fit perfectly here! The seller was wondering a bit, when I asked if I could take the caps with me. :)

Tässä on kaikki kolme pääkallokorttia vierekkäin. Taustalla on revittyjä kirjan sivuja, gessoa, leimausta, maalia ja värjättyä kohopastaa. Päällä on värjätty pääkallo, jonka reunat revin. Tuosta keskimmäisestä tuli aika kammottava. Hyvä niin! :D

Here are all three skull cards next to each other. In the background are torn book pages, gesso, stamping, paint and colored light paste. On top I put a colored skull with ripped edges. The middle one turned out creepy. Good! :D

I like this chemist stamp. It works great for Halloween and later, when I make cards for my work and study friends. :)

Toinen rivi takaa / The second row from the back

Takaosassa oli kolme erilaista Halloween-toivotusta. / I made three different Halloween wishes to the backside.

Kolmas rivi edestä / The third row from the front

The texts I cut from scrapbooking paper and glued underneath a piece of colored corrugated cardboard (just because I wanted to put it somewhere). The moon I painted with a round foam piece (I rolled it around and lifted it). I added some shading with Distress Ink. I wouldn't have thought, how wonderful the moon turned out!

Tähän taustalle leimasin maalia puupalikalla, jossa oli kierretty ympäri lankaa. Bongasin vinkin netistä ja se todellaki toimii!

On this background I stamped paint with a piece of wood, which had wrapped yarn around it. I found this tip on the internet and it's awesome!

Kolmanteen korttiin laitoin B-pullonkorkin (Brooklyn-panimon korkit toimii tähän hyvin), koska minulla oli pääkallokorkkeja vain kaksi.

On the third card I put a B bottle cap (Brooklyn Brewery caps works well for this), because I had only two skull caps.

Tykkään käyttää mixed mediassa kierrätysmateriaaleja (kuten tässä aiemmin on saattanut huomata). Tämä verkko on rikkinäisestä pyörän koristani. Sehän näyttää melkein hämähäkin seitiltä, eikö niin? :)

I like to use recycled materials in my mixed media works (which you probably have noticed earlier here as well). This web is from my broken bike basket. It looks somewhat like a spiderweb, right? :)

Mukaan pääsi tälläkin kertaa Hullu hiivojen kasvattaja. Veden läpi on hauska ottaa kuvia,  koska niistä ei ikinä tiedä, minkälaisen lopputuloksen saa. Näissäkin kuvissa hymyilen. :D Enemmän hauskoja selfie -kuvia löytyy Crazy yeast cultivator -facebook-sivuilta (linkki).

Also this time the crazy yeast cultivator made it in my pocket letter. It’s funny to take pictures through the water, because you never know what the outcome will be. In these pictures I smile. :D You can find more fun selfies on the facebook page of the Crazy yeast cultivator (link).

Taskun päälle liimasin lepakon tarran. Siitä tuli tähän hauska efekti: onko siinä lentävä lepakko vai viikset?? :D

On top of the pocket I glued a bat sticker. It turned out to have a funny effect: is it a flying bat or a mustache?? :D

Ja mukaan tuli tietenkin myös pieni kirje. / And of course I added the small letter as well.

Tässä kaikki kolme valmiina postiin! / Here are all three ready for mailing!

HAUSKAA HALLOWEENIA KAIKILLE!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

ATC Swap party

Löysin onneksi vielä vähän extra-aikaa ja tein Mixed Media Worldin ATC-"vaihtobileisiin" Halloween-aiheisen ATC-korttisetin. Vielä on muutama päivä aikaa osallistua! :)

Fortunately I found a little extra time to make a Halloween themed ATC series for Mixed Media World's ATC swap party. There's still a few days left to participate! :)

Täältä (linkki) löytyy lisää aiheesta. / Here (link) you will find more info.

Pistä viestiä, jos haluat vaihtaa kanssani. Vaihdan mielelläni!

Send me a message, if you're interested in swapping ATC with me! As long as the post goes, I'm interested to swap worldwide! :)

Loppusilaus tuli tekstinpalalla.

This time I took the pictures at work only with my mobile phones (I did not realize to grab my camera, d'oh). I painted orange and red paint on the background with a paint roller (it's a really nice tool!) and stamped some laboratory stamps. I found the butterflies in a magazine and glued a small skull on their heads - and the Halloween spirit is guaranteed! ;) Under the butterfly is black tulle and orange paint and glitter mixed with light paste (love that stuff!). The last touch came with the text.

Aloitin art journalin! / I started an art journal!

Innostuin viime viikolla vihdoinkin aloittamaan oman art journalini. Ensimmäisen art journal aukeaman laitoin facebook-sivuilleni (linkki).

Olen aika malttamaton surffailemaan tutoriaaleja, joten aloitin vaan läträämisen. :)

Last week I got excited to start my own art journal. I pondered for a long time, how to begin. What technique I should use, what color, what material. But no plan is needed (I don't have a proper plan for my cards either), just start with something, right? This is the second art journal spread of my life. My first spread I put on my facebook page (link). I did this blue spread as a DT work for the Finnish papercraft blog Paperilla. The other team member's amazing works you can see there, too (link).

An art journal is a journal, where you can express the day's feelings, events or something you just have on your mind. Anyone can start an art journal and everybody has their own style. You don't have to show your pages to anyone else. So you can put there whatever you feel like. Nobody is criticizing it.

I started with a layer of gesso and a few torn book pages. Gesso is still a relatively new acquaintance for me. I bought one jar for experimenting, because I read on several mixed media artist's pages that they use it. I'm quite impatient to surf tutorials on the internet, so I just started to play with it. I did do some research and realized that it is a good basis. :)

Next, I painted turquoise Dylusions paint. I bought some Dylusion paints for the same reason like the gesso. I didn't wait for the gesso to dry completely before I started. First of all, I didn't want to wait so long, and secondly, I thought the blue paint would get some new shades when it mixes with the white paint. Finally I spread the color some more with my fingers and hands. Some people like to put fingers into earth in their garden and some into dough. I like to put my fingers into paint. :) I put darker blue color with water-soluble oil pastels here and there. I squirted some water on those parts and spread the color with my fingers. I also squirted some water onto the book pages to get them a little more out.

Leimasin tekstileimalla ja ruskealla Distess Ink -musteella muutamiin kohtiin tekstiä. Kaksi kohtaa embossasin kirkkaalla embossausjauheella, ettei kaikki näyttäisi samalta.

I stamped with a text stamp and brown Distress Ink a few lines of text. Two parts I embossed with clear embossing powder so not all would look the same.

Kolmeen reunaan laitoin sabluunan läpi valkoista kohopastaa. Joihinki kohtiin kaadoin oransseja mikrohelmiä, niin sain sinisen lisäksi toisenkin värin. Pallurat lentää herkästi ympäriinsä eli imurointi lähiaikoina ei olisi huono idea. :)

Joku askartelusivusto kysyi seuraajiltaan joskus, onko siisti vai sotkuinen askartelija. Huomasin, etten ole yksin. :)

On three edges I put white paste through a stencil. On some parts I poured orange microbeads to get an additional color. These beads run easily all around, so vacuum cleaning in the near future would not be a bad idea. :)

This whole thing is anyway a quite messy. At least when I craft (I was able to destroy my lovely new college pants already, but fortunately they are not supposed to be worn outside - tip: white gesso and Tacky Glue doesn't go out in the washing  ;)). Someone on a crafting site asked their followers, whether they were neat or messy crafters. I noticed that I am not alone. :)

I drew
three circles with black and white pens and I glued small pieces of cardboard with the texts "live", "love" and "make" in them. These words were related to the next page's letters ART. I had the letter stickers but with the wrong color (light pink - not my color). That's why I painted them with two layers of orange. Before I glued the letters on the page, I drew outlines for the letters with the same black and white pens. Finally, I painted a little gold with Inka Gold into the circles and letters.

Then at some point I need to decide that the spread is ready. Otherwise, I might continue for a long time. :) I'm going to make more art journal pages in addition to my other works. This is color therapy and good variation to f.ex. ATC and pocket letters. I encourage you to try this too! Let's go, just do it! Put your fingers into paint or put a pen in your hand. Here, as in these things anyway, there is no right or wrong. That's why this is so great! You can do whatever you want. :)

Elokuva-aiheinen pocket letter / Movie themed pocket letter

Tein toisen pocket letterin aiheella elokuva. :)

I made another pocket letter with the subject movies. This is what it looks like with my mixed media style. This time I had a proper letter in it (last time in my first pocket letter I used speech bubbles instead of a letter, link). I wanted to have different film styles and therefore this letter includes f.ex. a Minion, Charlie Chaplin, Rocky and Chuck Norris. :)

Ja takaa / And from the back

Ensimmäinen rivi edestä / The first row from the front

Ja ensimmäinen rivi takaa / And the first row from the back

Toinen rivi edestä / The second row from the front

Pussissa oli kiinni skumppapullon korkista leikattu pala, jolloin tasku ei paisunut liian paksuksi (tällä kertaa).

I cut a piece of a sparkling wine bottles cork and glued in on the pocket, so the card wouldn't get too thick (this time).

Kolmas rivi edestä / The third row from the front

Kolmas rivi takaa / The third row from the back

Näissä pocket lettereissä on aikamoinen homma.

There's quite some work on these pocket letters. Especially because I also want to decorate the back. Otherwise it would look very empty after the small gifts have been taken away.
