Sivussa on koristeena muitakin tekemiäni muovailmassakoristeita. Tässä on porkkana ja pyöräytetty ja lytätty pallura. Taittelin myös pienen origamiveneen, joka löytyi itse työstäkin. 

On the sides there are also other decorations made out of modeling clay. There's a carrot and a squashed ball. I also folded a small origami boat, which I also have in the work itself.

Työssä ja esittelysivussa oli kalalampi. Tein samanlaisia kalalampia origamipaperista ja muovailumassakivistä pariin japanilaishenkiseen korttiin (jotka löytyy täältä).

In the work and on this presentation page is a fish pond. I made similar fish ponds out of origami paper and modeling clay stones in these Japanese style cards (which can be found here).

Massatyöni oli metsämaisemadiorama lasipurkissa (salsa-purkki toimi hyvin tähän, koska se oli matala ja leveä). Metsässä on kiva grillailla ja siksi tein myös pari makkaratikkua massasta ja metsän tikuista.

My clay work was a forest landscape diorama in a glass jar (a salsa jar works well for this, because it was low and wide). In the forest it's nice to grill sausages and that is why I also did a couple of sausage on sticks (modelling clay on real sticks).

Metsässä on toki myös sieniä! Tein tällä kertaa kahta erilaista lajia: kärpässieniä (kuten aiemminkin esimerkiksi täällä) ja herkkutatteja.

There are of course also mushrooms in the forest! I did two different species this time (the other ones I have also for example here).

Tässä kaksi kuvaa itse dioramasta. Pohjalla on leikattua karvalankaa (josta puolet liimaantui sormiini ja puolet lasiin). Lasin yläreunoilla on pumpulia pilviksi.

Here are two pictures of the diorama. At the bottom is cut hairy yarn (of which half got glued on my fingers and half on the glass). On the top of the jar I put wadding as clouds.

Nuotio on koottu pienistä tikuista ja tulilieskat tikkujen välissä ovat silkkipaperia. Kokosin nuotin ensin ja sitten vasta liimasin sen lasin pohjalle.

The campfire is assembled of many small natural sticks and the flames in between the sticks are tissue paper. I assembled the fire first and then glued it to the bottom of the glass.

Tässä esittelen tekemäni ison kollaasikortin. Postasin sen aiemmin myös blogiini (tänne), jossa esittelin työtä tarkemmin.

Here I present a big collage card I made. I posted about it also earlier on my blog (here), where I presented the work in more detail.

Yksityiskohtaisemmat kuvat laitoin polaroid-malliin, jonka alle kirjoitin tarkentavaa tekstiä.

The more detailed pictures I put in polaroids, where I wrote some text underneath.

Leikkasin Big Shot -leikkurilla vanhasta LP-levystä nuolet. Levy oli kuitenkin sen verran kova, etten aio tehdä tätä enää, koska stanssi ja kone eivät kauheesti tykänneet tästä materiaalista.

I cut old LP arrows with my Big Shot. However, the LP was too hard and I think my die and machine didn't really like it. I shouldn't do it again. :) 

Ensimmäinen pocket letter / My first pocket letter

Innostuin ATC-korttien lisäksi myös pocket letter -kirjeistä. Pocket letter (= “taskukirje”) on askarreltu kirje, jossa on yhdeksän taskua. Taskuissa on (mahdollisesti tiettyyn aiheeseen liittyviä) käsintehtyjä kortteja. Kortit ovat suunnilleen ATC-kortin kokoisia (ATC-korteista löytyy lisää täältä). Kirjeeseen laitetaan mukaan pieniä lahjoja askarteluun tai muuhun liittyen (esim. paljetteja, teepussi, washi-teipin palasia) ja yhdessä taskussa on myös kirjoitettu kirje. Tämä kirje vaihdetaan toisen askartelijan kanssa (tai miksei sitä voisi antaa jollekin ihan muuten vaan lahjaksikin) eli tekemällä pocket letterin saa ihanaa yllätyspostia! Sen kummempia sääntöjä tähän ei ole eli mielikuvitus laukkaamaan! Koristeita voi liimata myös muovipussien päälle (tässä kannattaa kyllä sitten tarkistaa liiman pysyvyys!), ne voivat kurkkailla taskuista tai roikkua sivusta.

In addition to ATC cards I also got excited about pocket letters. A pocket letter is a crafted letter with 9 pockets. The pockets are filled with handmade cards (often related to a specific subject) and small gifts (f.ex. sequins, a tea bag, washi tape pieces). In one pocket is a written letter. The cards are about the size as ATC (more about ATC cards can be found here). This letter will be exchanged with another crafter (or why not give it to someone just as a present). By making a pocket letter you get wonderful surprise mail! There’s not much more “rules” so let your imagination run free! Decorations can also be glued on top pf the pockets (then it’s good to check the stickiness of the glue!), they can peek out of a pocket or hang from the side.

Ensimmäisen pocket letterini aiheena oli tiede, koska halusin hyödyntää samaa hullua tiedemiestä kuin aiemmissa ATC-korteissani (ne löytyy täältä). Kirjeen voi siis suunnitella kahdella tavalla: joko kokoaa yhdeksästä kortista yhden ison kuvan tai tekee kaikista korteista erilaisia (usein ne silti liittyy samaan aiheeseen).

The theme for my first pocket letter was science, because I wanted to take advantage of the same mad scientist picture than I used in my Mad ATC series (the cards can be found here). So, the letter can be designed in two ways: either by making one large image with nine cards or making all cards different (often still with the same theme).

Seuraavaksi esittelen pocket letterini lähemmin. Toivottavasti lähikuvista saa selvää, minkälaisia tekniikoita ja materiaaleja olen käyttänyt. Kysy toki, jos jokin on epäselvää! Vastaan mielelläni. :)

Ensimmäisessä pocket letterissä kirjoitin jokaisen kortin taakse jotain puhekuplaan kirjeen sijaan.

Instead of the letter I wrote something in a speech bubble behind every card.

Iso kollaasikortti / Big collage card

Tein noin kolme kertaa suuremman kortin kuin aiemmin, jossa halusin käyttää mahdollisimman paljon erilaisia tekniikoita. Tässä on leikattu, liimattu, leimattu, sommiteltu, maalattu sormin ja sabluunan läpi, ommeltu, massailtu, tuputettu mustetta suoraan tai sabluunan läpi ja stanssattu. Tämän kollaasin on tarkoitus kuvastaa sekä vapaa-ajan että työminää: olen iloinen ja luova ja olen kasvattanut bioreaktorissa (oikea alanurkka) homesieniä (vasen alanurkka - oikeasti kasvattamani sienet eivät näyttäneet ollenkaan tältä :D) ja hiivoja (kaatunut hiivanäytepurkki keskellä).

I made a card that was three times bigger than all the others. I wanted to use as much different techniques that I could use at this point. Here I have cut, glued, stamped, composed, painted with fingers and through a stencil, sewed, made clay decorations, inked straight on the paper and through a stencil and cut with dies. This collage is supposed to show a little of me as a work person and in my free time: I'm a happy and creative person who has cultivated fungi (left lower corner - actually they never looked like that :D) and yeast (the spilled sample bottle in the middle) in a bioreactor (lower right corner).

Tämä valokuva kertoo luovasta hulluudestani, joka on minulle tärkeää. Pitää välillä olla vähän hyvällä tavalla hullu. :) Kuvan ympärille olen tuputtanut Distress Ink -mustetta lempisabluunani läpi. Uudella stanssilla leikattu teksti sopii hyvin kuvaan.  

This picture shows my crazy creativity, which is important to me. One has to be a little good kind of crazy every now and then. :) I put Distress Ink through my favorite stencil around the picture. The text cut out with my new die fits perfectly with the picture.

Kuvan vieressä on minipullo, jonka etiketissa kerrotaan sen olevan hiivanäyte (yhden hiivan nimi oli Pichia). Se on kaatunut, jolloin pienet hiivapallurat valuvat sieltä ulos - sekä muutama punainen (epätoivottu) kontaminaatio. Tämä on tuttua hiivakaulakorustani, jonka tein aiemmin (linkki). 

Next to the picture I put a small bottle with the label Pichia sample (my yeast was called Pichia - at least one of them was). The bottle is fallen down so the yeast balls roll out - in addition to a few (unwelcome) contaminations. This is familiar from my yeast jewelry (link) from before.

Kun tein minisienikaulakoruni (linkki), siitä jäi muutama sieni yli, jotka hyödynsin tässä kortissa. Ne kasvavat kortin alanurkassa sammaleesta. Sammal on vihreää karvalankaa, jonka ompelin käsin korttiin.

When I made my minimushrooms for my necklace (link), I had a few left over, which I made use of in this card. They grow on moss, which was furry yarn that I sewed on the cardboard. 

Biotekniikkateema jatkuu PCR-koeputkilla, joita koristaa muutama kukkanen. Putkien sisällä on kahta lempiglitterväriäni. :) Vieressä on koulukirjakuva bioreaktorista. Sellaisessa olen kasvattanut paljon hiivoja ja sieniä!

The biotechnology theme continues with small PCR test tubes, that are decorated with a few lovely flowers. Inside the tubes are my two most favorite glitter glue colors. :) Next to them I placed a school book picture of a bioreactor. In one of those I have cultivated a lot of yeast and fungi!

Maalia päätyi korttiin sormin tuputettuna ja sabluunan läpi maalattuna. 

Paint was distributed with fingers and with a paintbrush through a stencil.

Kuvan yläpuolella iso kukka leikattu erilaista kangaspaloista. Keskellä oleva nappi on tehty itse vanhasta printtipaidasta (ne toimii parhaiten!). Kukan alta puskee lehtiä, joita on väritetty punaisella musteella.

Above the picture is a big flower cut out of different fabric pieces. The button in the middle I have made myself out of an old print T-shirt (they work the best!). From underneath red leaves are growing (with inked edges).

Ylänurkassa on taustassa leima ja kohopastaa. Tätä kevyttä koostumusta on tosi ihanaa käyttää. Aiemmin olen käyttänyt jotain halvempia maaleja, mutta joskus kannattaa panostaa laatuun. :)

In the above left corner I used a stamp and light paste. I was positively surprised by the light and easy-to-use consistency. Previously I have only used cheap paints and you can really feel the difference. Sometimes it's good to pay a bit more for quality. :)

Meinasin aluksi leikata reunan tasaiseksi, mutta päätinkin jättää sen tuolla tavalla, miten se sattumalta meni, kun liimasin palaset siihen kiinni. Tein tätä monen monta iltaa ja olen tyytyväinen lopputulokseen. Tämä askartelu on hyvin aikaa vievää, mutta oikein mukavaa puuhaa!

I planned to straighten the edges, but it looked quite nice like this, so I left it. I crafted this many many evenings at home, but I'm happy with the result. This papercrafting is time consuming but so much fun!
