Junk journaling

Inspiroiduin Jaine Draken junk journalista uusimmassa Craft Stamper -lehdessä ja tein muutaman uuden sivun omaan junk journaliini. Art journal on koottu kierrätyspapereista ja tehty vanhan kirjan kansiin (art journal löytyy täältä). Käytin paljon postimerkkejä, joita olen toimistoltakin kerännyt. Halusin näyttä esimerkin työkaverilleni, miksi niitä kerään ja mitä niillä teen.

I was inspired by Jaine Drake's junk journal in the latest Craft Stamper magazine and made a few new pages myself in my junk journal. My art journal is made of recycled paper and old book covers (the post about my art journal is here). I used a lot of stamps that I collected from my own mail and from the office. I wanted to show an example to my co-worker, what I do with all the stamps.

Viime vuonna aloin keräämään vanhoja papereita ja kaikenlaisia muita juttuja, jotka sopivat tämäntyylisiin kollaasitöihin. Eli materiaalia oli reilusti näitä sivuja varten. Innostuin keräämään kaikkea, kun katsoin Kasia Averyn videoita Wanderlust-kurssilla. Perustin oman "kenkälaatikon". Nyt minulla on useampi erikokoinen laatikko täynnä aarteita.

Last year I started to collect old papers and everything that could be used for these kinds of collage pages, so I already had enough materials to work with. By watching Kasia Avery's classes on Wanderlust last year, I realized that you cannot throw anything away and I started my own "shoebox". Now I have several different sized shoeboxes full of treasures.

Myös vinkkinä Wanderlust-kurssilta leikkasin valmiita palloja itsetehdyistä taustoista. Näissä sivuissa käytin Gelli-levyllä tekemiäni sivuja. Hyv idea saada lisää väriä työhön.

Another tip I got from the Wanderlust course was to cut circles from my own backgrounds. I used my Gelli-plate prints here. Great to bring more color on the page!

Jopa leikkuujämät ovat loistavaa materiaalia junk journaliin.

Even leftovers from die-cuts are great material for a junk journal.

Tein myös pari vähän yksinkertaisempaa sivua. Voisin enemmänkin harrastaa CAS-tyyliä (clean and simple), mutta tungen aina paljon kamaa sivuun, koska muuten se aina näyttää niin tyhjältä. Tämä oli siis myös hyvä harjoitusta. :)

I also made a few more simple pages. I could do more of this CAS style (clean and simple), because I like to put a lot of stuff on my pages. They look empty otherwise. This was good practice. :)

Tein myös yhden sivun kuvansiirrolla. 

I also made a page with a picture transfer.

Junk journal -sivujen tekeminen on tosi hauskaa! Kannattaa kokeilla. Säästä kaikki. :D

Craft Stamper challenge: Spring Flowers

Osallistuin nyt ensimmäistä kertaa Craft Stamper -blogin Take it, Make it -haasteeseen (haaste löytyy täältä). Craft Stamper on tällä hetkellä lempilehteni, koska siinä on upeita mixed media -töitä ja ideoita. Nyt huhtikuun haasteen aiheena oli "Spring flowers" (eli kevätkukkaset). Tein aiheesta art journal -sivun.

This is the first time I'm participating in Craft Stamper's Take it, Make it Challenge (the challenge can be found here). Craft stamper is currently my favorite magazine, because it has wonderful mixed media art work and amazing ideas. Now, the challenge's April theme was "Spring flowers". I made an art journal page.

Taustan tein Distress Ink -musteilla vähän samaan tyyliin kuin tehtiin viime viikonlopun Liesbeth Fidderin leimailukurssilla (teen siitä erillisen postauksen pian), joihin roiskaisin vettä vierustoverini Elinan tyyliin (hänen upea ja tyylikäs bloginsa on täällä). Kukan piirsin, mutta sen lehdet, niityn ja ötökät leimasin. Kukkaa väritin hieman vesiliukoisilla öljypastelleilla.

I spread Distress Inks in the background  in the similar style like we did last weekend in Liesbeth Fidder's course (I will do a separate post about the course soon). On the ink I sprashed water drops like I saw my course neighbor Elina make (her fantastic and stylish blog is here). I drew the flower, but its leaves, the meadow and the bugs I stamped. I colored the flower slightly with water-soluble oil pastels.

On kyllä ihanaa, kun kevät tuli ja sen mukana aurinko, värikkäät kukat ja valo! 

It's so wonderful that spring has finally come to Finland, too! With the sunshine, colorful flowers and light!

Paperilla DT: Ystävänpäiväkortti / Valentine's Day card

Käytin korteissa Craft Stamper -lehden tammikuun numeron mukana tullutta söpöä nalleleimaa. Nalle sai neljä sydänilmapalloa. Tein kaksi korttia tähän tyyliin.

I used the cute teddy bear stamp that came with January's issue of Craft Stamper. The teddy got four heart balloons. I made two cards with this style.

Seuraavaksi näytän muutaman kuvan korttien tekemisestä. Valitettavasti näissä kuvien laatu on huono. Askartelen mielelläni illalla ja valaistus on tosi huono (varsinkin näin talvella). Ja olen liian innokas jatkamaan, joten nämä on otettu nopeasti kännykällä. :)

Kokeilin nyt ensimmäistä kertaa taustalla pelkästään Brusho-väriä (eikä laittanut siis kuviopaperia alle ollenkaan). Päälle embossasin lisää tekstuuria palloleimalla ja valkoisella embossausjauheella. Tykkään kovasti Brushon jäljestä, joka tulee ihan sattumalta jonkinlaiseksi. Siihen oli sitten kiva laittaa jotain selkeää mukaan (tässä ympyröirä leimalla). :)

Next, I'll show a few pictures of how I made the cards. Unfortunately, the  quality of the pictures is a bit poor. I like to craft in the evening and then the lighting is quite bad (especially now in the winter). And I'm too eager to continue, so these are quickly taken with my phone. :)

 
For the first time I tried only Brusho colors in the background (so no pattern paper like I would otherwise have done). I embossed circles with a stamp and white embossing powder to add some texture. I like the Brusho style background, because you don't know how it will look like, when you make it. Then it's nice to put something more structured with it (here, the circles). :)

Löysin netin ihmeellisestä maailmasta hyvän ja helpon vinkin, miten Distress Ink -musteilla voi värittää kuvia. Mustetyyny painetaan (tässä tapauksessa) piirtoheitinkalvolle ja päälle suihkautetaan vähän vettä. Tadaa, vesiväri on valmis! :D

I found in the miraculous world of internet a great and easy tip how to use Distress Ink to color images. The ink pad is pressed (in this case) on a transparent overhead projector sheet and a little water is sprayed on top. Tadaa, the watercolor is ready! :D 

Leikkasin sydämet kartongista stanssilla ja värjäsin Distress Ink -musteella reunoja. Teippasin pienen langanpätkän taakse ja kohotarrapaloja. Olen huomannut, että tarkat pinsetit ovat tähän aika kätevät (missä pienet tarrat tarttuu muuten helposti sormiini). 

I cut the cardboard hearts with a die and dyed their edges with Distress Ink. I taped a small piece of yarn and 3D stickers behind them. I have noticed that precise tweezers are quite handy with this kind of work (where small stickers tend to get stuck on my fingers). 

Rullasin langanpätkiä vähän yhteen, jotta ne menevät samasta pisteestä ylös. Teippasin langat korttiin. Nalle sai alle myös muutamia kohotarroja ja sitten se meni lankojen päälle. Lopuksi leikkasin ylimääräiset langanpätkät pois. 

Ja näin kortti valmistui! :)

I wrapped the yarns a bit together, so that they start from the same point. I taped the yarns on the card. The teddy also got some 3D stickers and then it was glued on top of the tape. Finally, I cut the extra yarn off.
 

And so, the card was completed! :)
