Olen aika malttamaton surffailemaan tutoriaaleja, joten aloitin vaan läträämisen. Jotain tutkimusta sentään tein ja ymmärsin, että se on hyvä pohjana. :)
Last week I got excited to start my own art journal. I pondered for a long time, how to begin. What technique I should use, what color, what material. But no plan is needed (I don't have a proper plan for my cards either), just start with something, right? This is the second art journal spread of my life. My first spread I put on my facebook page (link). I did this blue spread as a DT work for the Finnish papercraft blog Paperilla. The other team member's amazing works you can see there, too (link).
I started with a layer of gesso and a few torn book pages. Gesso is still a relatively new acquaintance for me. I bought one jar for experimenting, because I read on several mixed media artist's pages that they use it. I'm quite impatient to surf tutorials on the internet, so I just started to play with it. I did do some research and realized that it is a good basis. :)
Next, I painted turquoise Dylusions paint. I bought some Dylusion paints for the same reason like the gesso. I didn't wait for the gesso to dry completely before I started. First of all, I didn't want to wait so long, and secondly, I thought the blue paint would get some new shades when it mixes with the white paint. Finally I spread the color some more with my fingers and hands. Some people like to put fingers into earth in their garden and some into dough. I like to put my fingers into paint. :) I put darker blue color with water-soluble oil pastels here and there. I squirted some water on those parts and spread the color with my fingers. I also squirted some water onto the book pages to get them a little more out.
I stamped with a text stamp and brown Distress Ink a few lines of text. Two parts I embossed with clear embossing powder so not all would look the same.
Joku askartelusivusto kysyi seuraajiltaan joskus, onko siisti vai sotkuinen askartelija. Huomasin, etten ole yksin. :)
On three edges I put white paste through a stencil. On some parts I poured orange microbeads to get an additional color. These beads run easily all around, so vacuum cleaning in the near future would not be a bad idea. :)
This whole thing is anyway a quite messy. At least when I craft (I was able to destroy my lovely new college pants already, but fortunately they are not supposed to be worn outside - tip: white gesso and Tacky Glue doesn't go out in the washing ;)). Someone on a crafting site asked their followers, whether they were neat or messy crafters. I noticed that I am not alone. :)
I drew three circles with black and white pens and I glued small pieces of cardboard with the texts "live", "love" and "make" in them. These words were related to the next page's letters ART. I had the letter stickers but with the wrong color (light pink - not my color). That's why I painted them with two layers of orange. Before I glued the letters on the page, I drew outlines for the letters with the same black and white pens. Finally, I painted a little gold with Inka Gold into the circles and letters.
Then at some point I need to decide that the spread is ready. Otherwise, I might continue for a long time. :) I'm going to make more art journal pages in addition to my other works. This is color therapy and good variation to f.ex. ATC and pocket letters. I encourage you to try this too! Let's go, just do it! Put your fingers into paint or put a pen in your hand. Here, as in these things anyway, there is no right or wrong. That's why this is so great! You can do whatever you want. :)
