Wanderlust February Challenge

Wanderlust -kurssin helmikuun haasteessa katsotiin ympärillemme ja inspiroiduttiin erilaisista muodoista. Itse otin uusimman art journal -aukemana muodot talosta, jonka ohi menin kotimatkalla. Siinä oli kivat kuviot seinällä, jotka yritin jäljentää. Paperinpalaset värjäsin gelli platella, joka on minulla ollut vasta vähän aikaa eli en ole vielä montaa testivedosta ehtinyt tekemään. Sain sen syntymäpäivälahjaksi, jee!

In the February challenge of the Wanderlust course we were supposed to be inspired by patterns around us. I saw this interesting building on my way home and I decided to use that on my new art journal page. The pieces of paper I colored with my Gelli Plate, which I have had only for a short time and I haven't had time to make many test prints yet. I got it for my birthday, yay!

Koska tässä kuussa perehdyttiin enemmän erilaisiin kyniin, piti sivussa olla myös kirjoitusta. Kirjoitin palojen väleihin erilaisia lauseita. 

In this month we have learned more about pens and markers and therefore some writing was also expected to be added. I wrote different sentences between the pieces.

Suihkeilla toin lisää väriä sivuun, koska se muuten tuntui kovin tyhjältä. Wanderlust -kurssi on tosi hyvä minulle, koska siellä käydään myös vähän perusteita läpi eri materiaaleista. Itse hyppäsin aika tuntemattomaan, kun aloitin mixed media -työskentelyn. En ole innostuksissani malttanut selvittää kaikkien tuotteiden kaikkia ominaisuuksia ja siksi olen oppinut tekemällä, että esimerkiksi nämä mistiti sekoittuvat, vaikka olivatkin kuivuneet. :D

I brought more color on the page with mists, because otherwise it felt a bit empty. The Wanderlust course is really good for me, because we also go through basics for different materials. I jumped into the unknown when I first started working with mixed media. I didn't have all patience to figure out the features of all the products and that is why I have learned by doing. For example, that these mists mix, even after the first one was dry. :D

Miniskräppileiskoja / Mini scrapbook pages

Innostusta olisi tehdä vaikka kuinka monta skräppileiskaa, mutta jostain syystä se edelleen tuntuu vaikealta. Ajattelin siksi "harjoitella" lisää tekemällä pieniä skräppileiskoja (eli käytin 6 tuumasia papereita 12 tuuman sijaan). Minulla oli valmiiksi kaksi pientä kuvaa itsestäni, jotka sopivat kooltaan hyvin näihin minileiskoihin. Samalla pääsin testaamaan uusia maalejani ja jälkimmäisessä myös mica-jauheita, jotka on minulle täysin uusi tuttavuus.

I would love to do a lot of scrapbooking pages, but for some reason it still seems a bit difficult. Therefore I thought to do more "practice" by making small scrapbook pages (I used the 6 inch papers instead of 12 inches). I had two photos of myself that were small enough for these mini pages. I was able to test some of my new paints and in the second page also mica powders, which are totally new for me.

Ensimmäisessa leiskassa taustalla on leimausta, teippiä, sabluunan läpi tuputettua maalia ja mistiroiskeita. 

In the background of the first page I stamped, painted through a stencil and used washi tape and sprinkles of mist.

Toisessa leiskassa kokeilin mica-jauheen ja veden sekoitusta. Valkoiset sydämet ja isompi ympyrä on leikattu stanssilla kutistemuovista, joka on kutistettu uunissa.

On the second layout I tried out a mixture of mica powder and water. The white hearts and picture wheel are die-cut out of shrink plastic, which was shrunk in the oven.

Tähän leiskaan "uskalsin" jo kirjoittaa jotain. :) 

On this layout I already "dared" to write something. :)

 

Journal52: Nerdy Love

Journal52:n viikon 7 yhtenä haaste oli "nerdy love" (eli "nörttirakkaus"). Seuraan innokkaasti Doctor Who -sarjaa, mutta innostun myös tieteestä (etenkin biotekniikasta). Siksi kuvassa on Tardiksen lisäksi käytetty uusia kemia-leimoja (IndigoBlun "Chemistry Lab" - tulivat juuri postista ja ovat superit!). Meinasin laittaa sivuun hiivapalluroitakin, mutta päätin säästää ne seuraavan projektiin. :)

Journal52's week 7 first promp was "nerdy love". I love to watch Doctor Who, but I also get excited about science (especially biotechnology). Therefore, in addition to the flying Tardis I also used my new chemistry stamps (IndigoBlu's "Chemistry Lab" - I just got them from the mail and they are awesome!). I almost added some yeast balls as well, but decided to use them in the next project instead. :)

The Tardis is printed from the internet (source) and painted with Distress Ink.

 

Taustalla on leimojen lisäksi mm. mustaa Brusho-jauhetta (kuvittelin, että sillä saisin avaruusmäisen taustan - en tiedä onnistuinko ihan täysin, mutta hyvältä näyttää silti!) ja Mica-jauheella sekoitettua kohopastaa (siitä tuli tuikkivat tähdet).

In the background is in addition to stamps also black Brusho powder (I imagined that I would get a space-like background - I do not know I succeed that well, but still looks good!), and the Mica powder mixed with gloss gel (the twinkling stars).

Skräppikurssilla / In a scrapbooking course

Viime viikonloppuna osallistuin taas kurssille. Tällä kertaa Taru Jehkonen opetti skräppisivun tekemistä. Kursseilla oppii aina jotain uutta. Ja nyt oli kiva, että sain lisää kokemusta skräppisivujen tekemisestä, koska se on ollut yllättävän hankalaa yksin. :) Plus, tapaa tosi kivoja ihmisiä! Kurssien ilmapiirit ovat aina ollut tosi rentoja. Tarun kurssilla "Layers on Layout" tehtiin kaksi sivua. Tykkään Tarun tyylistä ja oli hienoa nähdä livenä, miten se syntyy. :)

Last weekend, I attended a craft course again. This time Taru Jehkonen taught scrapbooking. In courses I always learn something new. And this time it was nice to also get more experience with scrapbooking pages, as it has been surprisingly difficult alone. :) Plus, meeting nice people is great! The atmosphere in the courses has always been relaxed. In Taru's course "Layers on Layout" we made two scrapbook pages. I like Taru's style and it was great to see live, how she makes things. :)

Ensimmäinen sivu oli vähän yksinkertaisempi ja toisessa oli enemmän tavaraa taustalla.

The first page was a bit simpler, but the second page got more stuff in the background.

Paperilla DT: Ompelua korttiin / Sewing on the card

En yleensä jaksa kaivaa ompelukonettani esille. Mutta välillä se kannattaa, koska sillä saa upeaa jälkeä ja yksityiskohtia kortteihin! Tässä tägissä ompelin ympyrää. Enemmänkin olisin voinut ommella, mutta tällä kertaa kaksi kierrosta riitti. :)

I'm usually too lazy to take my sewing machine out. But sometimes it's worth it, because with it you get some really nice details on the cards! On this tag I sewed the circle paper. I could have sewn even more, but this time two rounds were enough. :)

Tein samalla tyylillä myös toisen kortin, jossa piirsin ompelun jäljen korttiin. Aina ei siis tarvitse ommella oikealla langalla. :)

I did another card in the same style, where I drew the stitching. You don't always need to sew with yarn. :)

Yhden välivaihekuvan muistin ottaa tällä kertaa. :) Tässä ovat taustat leikattuina, leimattuina ja kohopastattuna. Tägien alla on sabluuna, jota käytin. Sinne tänne levitin myös vähän mikrohelmiä. 

I remembered to take one picture from the steps I did. :) Here the backgrounds are cut, stamped and light pasted. Below is the stencil that I used. Here and there I spread a bit of micro beads.

Wanderlust January Challenge

Tammikuun haaste Wanderlust-kurssilla oli sitaatti, jota käytin art journal -sivussani. Jäin miettimään lainauksen "that will set you free" -osaa ja siksi päädyin tekemään lentäviä lintuja. Tein yhden kirjoitusvirheen, mutta ajattelin jättää sen siihen, koska se ei ehkä ole niin paha kuin jos yrittäisin peittää sen ja mahdollisesti epäonnistuisin siinä. :)

The January challenge in the Wanderlust course was the quote that I used on my art journal page. I was thinking about the last part of the quote "that will set you free" and that is why I ended up doing flying birds. I made a writing error, but I thought to leave it there, because it might not be as bad as if I would try to cover it and possibly fail in it. :)

Askartelukurssi Liesbeth Fidderin kanssa / Craft course with Liesbeth Fidder

Viime viikonloppuna osallistuin Amalian järjestämille kursseille, joissa opetti tosi mukava hollantilainen Liesbeth Fidder. Oli mahtavaa oppia uusia hienoja tekniikoita, kokeilla kauniita Art Journey -leimasimia ja tutustua ja jutella samanhenkisten ihmisten kanssa. Opin mm. uusia tekniikoita Distress Ink -musteiden ja Bister-jauhojen käytöstä. Bister on vastaavanlaista tavaraa kuten Brusho-jauheet ja molemmat leviävät kauniisti ja täysin satunnaisesti kostealle paperille. Itse en ainakaan koe, että pystyn kauheasti hallitsemaan lopputulosta. :)

Last weekend I attended courses organized by Amalia, which were taught by the lovely Dutch Liesbeth Fidder. It was amazing to learn some great new techniques, to try beautiful Art Journey stamps and get to know like-minded people and have nice chats with them. I learned among others new techniques how to use Distress Ink and Bister. Bister is similar to Brusho powders and both spread nicely and completely randomly on moist paper. At least I don't feel that I can control the outcome very well. :) 

Ensin osallistuin kurssille, jossa leikittiin Bister-jauheilla. Tein siellä mm. tällaisen tägin.

First I attended a course, where we played around with Bister powders. I made this tag there.

Korostin merihevosen silmää ja jälkeenpäin katsottuna alkuperäinen näyttää kovin väsyneeltä. Eikö niin? :D

I highlighted the sea horse's eye and now afterwards the original looks really tired. Right? :D

Taustat-kurssilla kokeiltiin myös toista tekniikkaa vedellä ja Distress Ink -musteilla. Kaikkea niilläkin voi tehdä!

In the backgrounds course we also tested another technique with water and Distress Inks. There's so much you can do with them! 

Ja nämä kortit tein Kerrokset-kurssilla. Tästä tekniikasta pidin erityisesti! Se on kuulemma myös Liesbethin lempitekniikka. :) 

And these cards I made in the Layers course. This technique I liked a lot! It seemed to be also Liesbeth's favourite. :)

Korttiin tehtiin useampia kerroksia ja se näytti vaikeammalta kuin se oikeasti oli. Tältä tausta näytti ennen kuin leimasin siihen. 

We made several layers on the cards and it seemed more difficult than it really was. This is how the background looked like before I stamped on it.

Liesbeth Fidder tulee takaisin huhtikuussa pitämään lisää kursseja. Suosittelen! Tykkäsin kovasti opettajasta ja kursseista. Huhtikuussa on toivottavasti keväisempi ilma, nyt oli mukavasti vähän pakkasta ja kauniisti lunta.

Liesbeth Fidder will be back in April to teach in more courses. I recommend to go! I liked the teacher and the courses very much. In April we have hopefully more springlike weather. Now we a little frost and beautiful snow.

Uusi art journal -sivu / New art journal page

Leikin taas misteilläni ja tein uuden art journal -sivun. Tämä art journal -kirjan sivujen tekeminen on ihan parasta tällä hetkellä! Voin tehdä just mitä huvittaa, eikä tarvitse miettiä, kenelle teos myöhemmin menee, koska se ei mene kenellekään. Ja kaikkia sivuja ei tarvii edes näyttää muille. :)

I was playing with my mists again and I made a new art journal page. Art journaling is just the best at the moment! I can do whatever I feel like and I don't have to worry about who gets the work later, because it doesn't go to anyone. And I don't have to show all my pages to others. :)

Journal52: Psychedelic

Journal52:n viikon 5 inspiraatioksi valitsin jälkimmäisen sanan "psychedelic" (psykedeelinen). Tulkitsin psykedeelisen sisältävän paljon väriä ja ympyröitä. Näin siis muodostui tämä sivu. Koska minulla oli vielä monta Hullu hiivojen kasvattaja -valokuvaa, laitoin tähän yhden, jossa minulla on vääntynyt "psykedeelinen" naama. :)

From Journal52's week 5 prompts I chose the second one: psychedelic. I interpreted it to contain a lot of colors and circles. So this page came out of it. Because I still had many Crazy yeast cultivator pictures, I put this one here, where I have a weird "psychedelic" face. :)
