ATC -kurssilla / At an ATC course

Nyt keväällä osallistuin taas Liesbeth Fidderin leimailukurssille Amalian tiloissa Espoon Kaisankodissa. Tällä kertaa ehdin osallistua vain yhdelle kurssille, joka oli ATC-kurssi. Kursseilla on tosi kiva käydä. Siellä oppii aina jotain uutta ja muiden askartelijoiden kanssa on mukavaa. Nyt, kun on olen muutamalla kurssilla jo ollut, alan tuntemaan ihmisiä. Aiemmin askartelin vain itsekseni, mutta kursseilla (ja myös facebookin askarteluryhmissä) pääsee juttelemaan samanhenkisten kanssa askarteluasioista - ja myös ihan muusta. Kurssit ovat siis askarteluterapiaa parhaimmillaan! :) 

Ensin tehtiin viisi korttia, joissa oli kaikissa sama ruusuleima keskellä ja teimme niistä erilaisia. Ihan itse sai valita, mitä tekniikkaa käyttää ja valinvaraa oli (jopa liikaa!). :) Kokeilin leimausten lisäksi embossausta kynällä pelkän ruusun kohdalla, joilloin siitä tuli "lasinen". Aika hieno efekti! Käytettiin paljon ihania Art Journey -leimasimia.


Now in the spring I attended Liesbeth Fidder's stamping craft course in Amalia again. This time I had time to participate in only one course, which was an ATC course. Participating in courses is fun. There's always something new to learn and chatting with other crafters is nice. Now, as I have already participated in a couple of course, I start to know more people. Previously I only crafted by myself, but in the courses (and also in the craft groups on facebook) I can talk with like-minded people about craft stuff - and also about something entirely different. The courses are crafting therapy at its best! :)

First we made five cards, where we stamped the same rose in the middle and then we made them different. We were able to choose what techniques we wanted to use and there was a lot of choice (too much maybe!). :) I tried in addition to stamping also embossing on one of the roses to make it into a "glass rose". Pretty cool effect! We used lovely Art Journey stamps.

Seuraavaksi tehtiin neljä korttia, jotka olivat yhteensä yksi iso kuva, mutta ykisttäin myös kiinnostavia. Tykkäsin erityisesti tästä taustasta, enkä olisi halunutkaan enää keskimmäistä isoa leimaa mukaan. :)

Next we got four cards, which were one big picture, but also interesting alone. I loved this background I made, I could have blanked out the center stamp completely. :)

Leimailu on kivaa! Tykkään kuitenkin enemmän, että mukana on myös jotain tekstuuria kuten maalia tai pastaa. Se on enemmän minun tyyliä. :)

Stamping is fun! However, I prefer that there's also some texture like paint or paste. It's more my style. :)

Jehkotar CRAFTChallenge Kesä DT: Toukokuun haaste / May Challenge

Hyviä uutisia: pääsin mukaan Jehkottaren DT-tiimiin kesäksi! Jee!! Siellä siis näette myös töitäni toukokuusta elokuuhun. Ensimmäinen DT-työni on toukokuun haasteeseen, joka löytyy täältä. Kannattaa osallistua haasteeseen, koska siinä on mahdollisuus voittaa upea palkinto!

Great news: I'm a part of the Finnish Jehkotar's DT team for the summer! Yay!! So this summer (May - August) you can also see my work there. My first DT assigment was the May challenge, which can be found here. 

Nappasin kolmesta haasteesta kukat ja vahvat värit ja tein pienen sarjan ATC-kortteja.

I took the flowers and the strong colors from the three challenges and I made a small series of ATC cards.

Taustan punainen ja keltainen on maalattu akryyliväreillä. Riikan kurssilta (postaus siitä täällä) bongasin verkkoteipin ja käytin sitä näissäkin tuomaan lisää tekstuuria taustaan. Jottei teippi näkyisi liian paljon, maalasin sen päälle vähän samoilla maaleilla kuin taustaan.  Niiden kuivuttua leimasin vähän harmaalla lisää kuviota.

The background is painted with red and yellow acrylics. In Riikka's course (post about it here) I learned how "net" tape can be used to bring more texture to the background and I did it here again. I painted a little bit over it with the same paints as before, so the white tape doesn't stand out too much. When dry, I stamped a little more in gray to get nice patterns. 

Korttien koristeena on erilaisia nauhoja ja washi-teippiä, jota leikkasin ohuemmaksi. Tämäkin oli hyvä vinkki, jonka aikoinaan bongasin netistä! Kukkapaperi on Japanista ostettua kaunista origamipaperia. Viimeiset muokkaukset tuli glitterliimalla ja tekstitarroilla.

I decorated the cards with a variety of ribbons and some washi tape, which I cut thinner. This was a great tip, which spotted once online! The flower paper is beautiful origamipaper from my Japan trip last year. The last modifications were done with glitter glue and text labels.

Wanderlust challenge: Muistoja / Memories

Tässä kuussa Kasia Krzyminska opetti Wanderlust-kurssin videossaan, että art journalia voi tehdä myös vanhoista perhevalokuvista. Äidilläni on paljon hänen suvun kuvia, eikä minulla tullut mieleenkään käyttää niitä. Nehän ovat upeita fokuspisteitä art journal -sivuihin! Huhtikuun Wanderlust-haasteessa hyödynnettiin juuri näitä vanhoja kuvia. En raaskinut käyttää alkuperäistä kuvaa ja printtasin niistä ensimmäisen ihan paperille ensin. Myöhemmin aion teettättää niistä oikeita valokuvia, kuten Kaisa neuvoi. Tämä on upea tapa pistää vanhojakin muistoja talteen.

Kuvan aihe sopii hienosti tähän vuodenaikaan, kun Wappu on ihan nurkan takana. Kuvassa on Wapun viettoa 60-luvulla. Siksi sivu on värikäs ilmapalloineen.

 

This month Kasia Krzyminska taught in her video in the Wanderlust course that also old family photos can be used in art journals. My mother has a lot of pictures of her family and it has never come to my mind to use them in my art. After all, they are stunning focal points in art journal pages! In Wanderlust's April challenge these old family pictures were needed. I didn't want to use the original image so I printed the picture on paper first. Later I will make copies on real photo paper like Kaisa advised. This is a great way to keep old memories.

The picture fits nicely to this time of year, when Wappu is just around the corner. In the picture Wappu is celebrated in the 60's. That's why I made a colorful page with balloons.

Aion etsiä käsiini lisää vanhoja kuvia ja käyttää niiden kopioita töissäni. Nyt tuli yhtäkkiä kasa uusia projekteja tehtäväksi aiempien lisäksi! :D

I'm going to look for more old family pictures and use their copies in my art. Now I got suddenly a a lot of new project to make in addition to the bunch of ideas I already have! :D

Craft Stamper challenge: Spring Flowers

Osallistuin nyt ensimmäistä kertaa Craft Stamper -blogin Take it, Make it -haasteeseen (haaste löytyy täältä). Craft Stamper on tällä hetkellä lempilehteni, koska siinä on upeita mixed media -töitä ja ideoita. Nyt huhtikuun haasteen aiheena oli "Spring flowers" (eli kevätkukkaset). Tein aiheesta art journal -sivun.

This is the first time I'm participating in Craft Stamper's Take it, Make it Challenge (the challenge can be found here). Craft stamper is currently my favorite magazine, because it has wonderful mixed media art work and amazing ideas. Now, the challenge's April theme was "Spring flowers". I made an art journal page.

Taustan tein Distress Ink -musteilla vähän samaan tyyliin kuin tehtiin viime viikonlopun Liesbeth Fidderin leimailukurssilla (teen siitä erillisen postauksen pian), joihin roiskaisin vettä vierustoverini Elinan tyyliin (hänen upea ja tyylikäs bloginsa on täällä). Kukan piirsin, mutta sen lehdet, niityn ja ötökät leimasin. Kukkaa väritin hieman vesiliukoisilla öljypastelleilla.

I spread Distress Inks in the background  in the similar style like we did last weekend in Liesbeth Fidder's course (I will do a separate post about the course soon). On the ink I sprashed water drops like I saw my course neighbor Elina make (her fantastic and stylish blog is here). I drew the flower, but its leaves, the meadow and the bugs I stamped. I colored the flower slightly with water-soluble oil pastels.

On kyllä ihanaa, kun kevät tuli ja sen mukana aurinko, värikkäät kukat ja valo! 

It's so wonderful that spring has finally come to Finland, too! With the sunshine, colorful flowers and light!

Journal52: Roots & Emerge

Olen hieman jäljessä Journal52-sivuston art journal -matkassa. Mutta luovuus tulee, kun se tulee, eikö niin? :) Tässä kaksi sivua, jotka tein.

I'm a little behind in the Journal52's art journal journey. But creativity comes when it comes, right? :) Here are two pages that I did.

Roots (eli juuret) - viiko/week 14

Näin jossain, kun joku oli tehnyt juuret tähän tyyliin ja halusin ehdottomasti kokeilla samaa tekniikkaa! Laitoin pienen tipan värillistä nestettä paperille ja puhalsin sitä eteenpäin pillillä. Kokeilin ensin maalia, jota olin laimentanut runsaasti vedellä, mutta se oli edelleen liian jämäkkää tähän tekniikkaan. Loppujen lopuksi päädyin käyttämään Brusho-jauheita sekoitettuna veteen. Vesivärit toimivat varmasti hyvin tässä. Vesi liikkui hyvin ja se meni hienosti omia reittejään. Jonkin verran sitä pystyy ohjaamaan, mutta ei täysin. Ja siksi tuloksesta tuli niin hieno! 

I saw someone made roots in this style and I definitely wanted to try the same technique! I put a small drop of colored liquid on the paper and I blew it forward with a straw. I tried this first with paint, which I had diluted with water, but it was still too thick for this technique. I ended up using Brusho powders mixed with water. Watercolors probably work here as well. The water was moving nicely and it went its own ways. You are able to control it to some extent, but not completely. And that's why the result was so great! 

Olen alkanut piirtää enemmän art journal -sivuissa. Piirsin kukan, mutta lehdet leimasin Carabellen leimoilla, jotka sopivat tähän täydellisesti. Kukan sisälle maalasin vähän keltaisella värillä. 

I have started to draw more in my art journal. I drew this flower, but the leaves I stamped with Carabelle's stamps that fit here perfectly. I painted the inside of the flower a little yellow.

Emerge (eli nousta tai ilmaantua) - viikko/week 10

Suihkun lasioveen meni pisaroita ja ne valuivat hienosti alas. Siitä sain inspiraation tehdä tämän tyyppisen art journal -sivun. Yläosan halusin pitää suhteellisen yksinkertaisena ja siksi siihen tuli tuollaiset pallot. Jossain näin tähän tyyliin tehtyjä palluroita ja piti sitäkin kokeilla! (Pitäisi laittaa inspiraatiolähteet ylös...)

On the shower glass door droplets flowed down nicely. That gave me the inspiration to make this type of art journal page. I wanted to keep the top relatively simple and that's why I ended up with these circles. I saw this style somewhere and had to try! (I should really save my inspiration sources somewhere...)

Kevät tuli! / Spring came!

Kevät tuli ja sitä mukaan myös keväiset värit ja teemat askarteluuni.

Spring came and with it also the spring colors and themes into my crafts.

Tein samalla taas lisäksi muutaman ATC-kortin.

Paperilla DT: Wappukoristeita / Carnival decorations

Wappuna on hauska hulluutella ja tehdä hassuja koristeita. Koska hiivat on mielestäni hauskoja (olette ehkä huomanneet, kun olette lukeneet blogiani :)), maalasin pari styroksiapalloa ja kiinnitin ne hiuspantaan. Toki pallot voi maalata ja koristella ihan millä tavalla tahansa. Ne voivat olla yksi- tai monivärisiä, muunlaisia hahmoja tai niistä voi tehdä myös omat glitterpallot liimaamalla niihin hilettä. Silloin ne ovat sinun itsetehdyt diskopallot!

Wappu time is fun in Finland - it's similar to carnival in other countries.  We celebrate it on 1.5. and the eve before. For Wappu it's fun to make special decorations. I think yeasts are fun (you may have noticed while reading my blog :)), so I painted a couple of styrofoam balls and put them on a head band. Of course the balls can be decorated as anything. They can be painted with one or more colors, as other type of creatures or make your own glitter balls by glueing glitter on them. Then they can be your own handmade disco balls!

Hiivan ilme syntyi piirretyllä viivalla ja valkoiselle kartongille piirretyillä silmillä. Tällä tavalla silmät tulevat hieman paremmin esille. 

The yeast's expression was drawn with a black pen. The eyes were first drawn on cardboard. That way, the eyes pop out a bit more.

Kiinnitys on hyvin yksinkertainen. Rautalanka vaan kierrettiin hiuspannan ympärille. Styroksipallon liimasin rautalankaan kiinni, jotta se pysyisi varmemmin mukana meiningeissä. :)

The attachment is quite simple. I just twisted the wire around the head band. The styrofoam ball I glued on the wire, so it would be more likely with me all day long. :)

Serpentiinin sijaan ajattelin kietoutua tänä vuonna näihin pieniin viireihin. Siitä tulee mukavaa värikästä vaihtelua. Viirit on leikattu värikkäästä paperista ja liimattu valkoiseen naruun. Tein kaksi viirinarua.

Instead of serpentine I thought of wrapping myself with these small banners this year. It will be a nice colorful variation. The banners are cut from colorful paper and glued on white yarn. I made two yarns with banners.
