Journal52: Full Moon and Lunacy

Journal52:n inspiraatiosanat olivat viikolla 4 Full Moon (täysikuu) ja Lunacy (kuuhulluus). Päätin käyttää molempia. Hulluus tuli mukaan valokuvan kautta (ajattelin, että hullu hiivojen kasvattaja (Crazy yeast cultivator) on sopiva tarpeeksi hullu tähän) ja täyskuu muuttui ilmapalloksi. Olin tyytyväinen keksimääni ideaan, koska tykkään kaikenlaisesta vähän erikoisesta ja hauskasta. :D Valokuva loppui kesken ja siksi piirsin käden jatkeen itse (ja siltä se näyttääkin :P).

The prompts for week 4 in Journal52 were Full Moon and Lunacy. I decided to use both. Lunacy came from a picture of me (I thought the Crazy yeast cultivator would be crazy enough for this) and the full moon turned into a balloon. I was pleased with my idea, because I like quirky and funny. :D The photo didn't include my whole hand, so I had to draw it by myself (and that's how it looks :P).

Ehkä huomasit, että minulla on jäänyt viikko 3 välistä. Keksin siihen jonkinlaisen keskeneräisen idean jo, mutta en ole ehtinyt toteuttaa sitä vielä. Viikko menee äkkiä, kun on muutakin tekemistä! :)

Maybe you noticed that I have missed week 3. I have some kind of unfinished idea for that, but I didn't have time to make it yet. And a week goes quickly when you have other things to do! :)

Käsityötarvikeliikkeitä Amsterdamissa / Amsterdam craft supply stores

Käytiin viime joulukuussa lomalla Hollannissa ja tottakai oli pakko myös käydä muutamassa askartelutarvikekaupassa. On aina kiva nähdä, minkälaisia tarvikkeita missäkin maassa myydään ja ostaa mukaan jotain mielenkiintoista, mitä Suomesta ei ehkä saa (tai vaikka saisikin, askartelukaupoissa on aina kiva käydä!).

Guuglasin ja kyselin vähän etukäteen, minne kannattaa mennä ja päädyin näihin neljään kauppaan (aikaa ei ollut tällä kertaa enempää). Esittelen lyhyesti kaupat ja näytän teille, minkälaisia ihanuuksia jokaisesta kaupasta löysin, jotta näette vähän, mitä sieltä saa. :)

Last December we had holiday in the Netherlands and of course I had to visit also a few stores with craft supplies. It’s always nice to see what kind of craft supplies each country has and also buying some nice things at the same time - especially if I find things that are not sold in Finland.

I googled and asked a bit in advance on where to go and ended up with these four stores (sadly I didn’t have time for more). I will briefly introduce the shops and I’ll show you what kind of lovely things I got from each store so you see a bit what you get there. :)

Aivan ihania leimasimia seinät täynnä mukavassa kaupassa. Hinnataso on hieman kalliimman puolella, mutta leimasimet näyttävät sen verran laadukkailta, että kannattaa panostaa muutamaan hyvään ostokseen. Tämä kauppa tekee myös tekevät myös leimasimia tilauksesta (kuul!).

Amazing stamp selection and lovely atmosphere in the shop. The price range is a bit on the higher side, which is also because of the higher quality of the stamps (at least that’s the impression I got). It’s worth investing in a few good stamps here. This place also makes stamps on request (cool!).

Ihania papereita julistekokoisista kuviopapereista kalliisiin origamipapereihin. Jokaisen paperiaskartelijan kannattaa käydä täällä! Yläkerrassa on myös taiteilijatarvikkeita (mutta en nyt käynyt siellä - puolisko kyllästyi ja pakotti poistumaan :D).

From beautiful pattern papers in poster-size and colorful more expensive origami papers. It’s worth a visit for each papercrafter! Upstairs had art supplies (but my better half got bored, so we had to continue our way :D).

Pipoos

Askartelutarvikekauppaketju, jolla on useampia kauppoja myös Amsterdamin ulkopuolella. Kävin itse toisessa kaupungissa kyseisessä kaupassa ja löysin sieltä paljon omiin askarteluihin sopivia materiaaleja. Tämä on vähän kuten Suomessa Sinelli, mutta löytyy myös vähän erilaisia juttuja  eli kannattaa käydä!

Pipoos is a chain store for different craft supplies, which also has shops outside Amsterdam. I went in another city in this store and I found many nice crafting supplies. So this is also worth a visit!

Hema

Tämän kauppaketjun kaupoissa on vähän kaikenlaista lastenkirjoista kodinsisustukseen, mutta löysin myös pienen askartelutarvikenurkkauksen. Vähän edullisempi kauppaketju.

This chain store has a bit everything from children's books to home decorations, but I also found a small craft supply corner. More inexpensive.

Paperilla DT: Ystävänpäiväkortti / Valentine's Day card

Paperillassa kerättiin tällä viikolla ideoita ystävänpäiväksi. Käy kurkkimassa täältä kortti-ideoita ja inspiraatiota!

Käytin korteissa Craft Stamper -lehden tammikuun numeron mukana tullutta söpöä nalleleimaa. Nalle sai neljä sydänilmapalloa. Tein kaksi korttia tähän tyyliin.

I used the cute teddy bear stamp that came with January's issue of Craft Stamper. The teddy got four heart balloons. I made two cards with this style.

Seuraavaksi näytän muutaman kuvan korttien tekemisestä. Valitettavasti näissä kuvien laatu on huono. Askartelen mielelläni illalla ja valaistus on tosi huono (varsinkin näin talvella). Ja olen liian innokas jatkamaan, joten nämä on otettu nopeasti kännykällä. :)

Kokeilin nyt ensimmäistä kertaa taustalla pelkästään Brusho-väriä (eikä laittanut siis kuviopaperia alle ollenkaan). Päälle embossasin lisää tekstuuria palloleimalla ja valkoisella embossausjauheella. Tykkään kovasti Brushon jäljestä, joka tulee ihan sattumalta jonkinlaiseksi. Siihen oli sitten kiva laittaa jotain selkeää mukaan (tässä ympyröirä leimalla). :)

Next, I'll show a few pictures of how I made the cards. Unfortunately, the  quality of the pictures is a bit poor. I like to craft in the evening and then the lighting is quite bad (especially now in the winter). And I'm too eager to continue, so these are quickly taken with my phone. :)

 
For the first time I tried only Brusho colors in the background (so no pattern paper like I would otherwise have done). I embossed circles with a stamp and white embossing powder to add some texture. I like the Brusho style background, because you don't know how it will look like, when you make it. Then it's nice to put something more structured with it (here, the circles). :)

Löysin netin ihmeellisestä maailmasta hyvän ja helpon vinkin, miten Distress Ink -musteilla voi värittää kuvia. Mustetyyny painetaan (tässä tapauksessa) piirtoheitinkalvolle ja päälle suihkautetaan vähän vettä. Tadaa, vesiväri on valmis! :D

I found in the miraculous world of internet a great and easy tip how to use Distress Ink to color images. The ink pad is pressed (in this case) on a transparent overhead projector sheet and a little water is sprayed on top. Tadaa, the watercolor is ready! :D 

Leikkasin sydämet kartongista stanssilla ja värjäsin Distress Ink -musteella reunoja. Teippasin pienen langanpätkän taakse ja kohotarrapaloja. Olen huomannut, että tarkat pinsetit ovat tähän aika kätevät (missä pienet tarrat tarttuu muuten helposti sormiini). 

I cut the cardboard hearts with a die and dyed their edges with Distress Ink. I taped a small piece of yarn and 3D stickers behind them. I have noticed that precise tweezers are quite handy with this kind of work (where small stickers tend to get stuck on my fingers). 

Rullasin langanpätkiä vähän yhteen, jotta ne menevät samasta pisteestä ylös. Teippasin langat korttiin. Nalle sai alle myös muutamia kohotarroja ja sitten se meni lankojen päälle. Lopuksi leikkasin ylimääräiset langanpätkät pois. 

Ja näin kortti valmistui! :)

I wrapped the yarns a bit together, so that they start from the same point. I taped the yarns on the card. The teddy also got some 3D stickers and then it was glued on top of the tape. Finally, I cut the extra yarn off.
 

And so, the card was completed! :)

This time I took advantage of a dictionary I found in the free shelf at the library. I cut words out here and there that fit with the card I was making or they were what initially inspired me to do a specific card.

Art journal Wanderlust-oppitunnin inspiroimana / Art journal inspired by a Wanderlust class

Viime viikolla katsoin Wanderlust -online kurssin toisen oppitunnin, jossa Kate Crane opetti matkakirjan (travel art journal) tekemistä. Pidän tosi paljon Kate Cranen värikkäästä tyylistä! Hänen värikkäät teokset ovat aivan ihania! Innostuin videosta niin paljon, että oli pakko heti kokeilla hänen opettamiaan tekniikoita yhdelle art journal -sivulle. Teen myöhemmin matkakirjan, koska se on tälle hetkelle liian iso projekti, enkä ole ihan hetki menossa matkalle jossa voisin sitä tarvita. Ihastuin näihin tekniikoihin ja olen jo käyttänyt niitä myöhemmissäkin töissäni. :)

Last week I watched the second class from the Wanderlust online course, where Kate Crane thought us how to make a travel art journal. I really love Kate Crane's colorful style! Her colorful works are amazing! I got inspired by the video so that I had to immediately try out some of the techniques thought in one art journal page. I will later make the travel journal, because it is for this moment a bit too big of a project, and I'm not going on a trip anytime soon. I fell in love with these techniques and I have already used some in my later works as well. :)
